A home is more than a financial asset. It is the foundation of dignity, security and community. The federal government must put people before profits and make the right to housing a reality. Read Leilani Farha’s powerful article: theglobeandmail.com/opinion/…

People complain about funding affordable housing while happily funding the consequences of not having it. Let that sink in.

“We welcome the commitments and investments achieved through honest and constructive discussions, most notably the agreement to convene future First Nations-First Ministers’ Meetings and open federal/provincial tables to First Nations. Dialogue at forums like this is in the national interest.” National Chief @chiefcindyafn said that the First Nations-First Ministers’ Meeting and Day of Ceremony held over two days on unceded Algonquin Territory in Ottawa was a successful dialogue resulting in key commitments that will move First Nations and the entire country forward. You can’t police, jail, or shelter your way out of a housing crisis. At some point, you have to actually HOUSE PEOPLE. Right? RIGHT?!

Last week, we shared the key issues we’re advocating for ahead of the upcoming election, including funding voluntary detox and treatment (NOT involuntary treatment). At the start of the last provincial election, two years ago, FIRST UNITED’s Social Justice Committee put together a statement about our position on voluntary/involuntary treatment. It's now 2026 and another provincial election but our stance hasn't changed. “FIRST UNITED has been serving the DTES community, including those who have mental health challenges, brain injuries, and people who use drugs, for over a century. As an organization with deep relationships and ties in the community, and as those who have seen firsthand the outcomes of failed policies like this, we vehemently object [to involuntary treatment].” Read our more of our stance here: firstunited.ca/resources/fir…

Urban Native Housing operating agreements are expiring, putting the housing security of more than 5,000 Indigenous families across BC at risk. The November 5 federal budget must deliver action. Indigenous families cannot afford to wait. ➡️ makola.bc.ca/protect/

Every time I say it's CHEAPER to house people than leave them on the streets, someone tells me to pay for it myself. WE ALREADY ARE! Through policing, ambulances, hospitals, shelters and jails. We're spending more to manage homelessness than we would to solve it. Paying more to accomplish less. Brilliant. 🫠🫠
Replying to @guyfelicella
You can pay for it then. C'mon put your money where your mouth is. lolololol. I bet you haven't invested a dime in any of this
