Fuel duty is fixed at 52.95p per litre for petrol and diesel. VAT at 20% is then added to the full pump price, so total tax is currently around 82p (petrol ~175p) to 86p (diesel ~199p) per litre.
Near real-time official data via the government's Fuel Finder has been available since 2 February 2026. It was already on Waze, PetrolPrices, AA, Confused.com and RAC Fuel Watch.
Google added it to Maps (and expanded on Waze) on 8 October via a partnership with the UK government, to make the existing Fuel Finder data far more accessible as prices rose.
