Enough is enough. The ongoing violence has cost lives, disrupted communities and left commuters fearing for their safety. The focus must now be on restoring stability, protecting lives and ensuring that everyone can travel without fear.

He couldn't get into university or college after matric. Today, Mziyanda Wili is a filmmaker, writer and aspiring entrepreneur. Growing up amid violence and gangsterism, and losing his father, presented challenges for Mziyanda and his family. But he was determined to create a different future for himself and those around him. A Facebook post about Chrysalis Academy became his turning point. Founded by the Western Cape Government, Chrysalis Academy is a flagship social crime prevention and youth leadership initiative that helps young people develop the skills, confidence and resilience to build a brighter future. Through the programme, he discovered his passion for filmmaking, poetry and storytelling. Today, he has written three plays, directed films and is working towards building his own creative company, with plans to create opportunities for other young people. We hope Mziyanda's journey inspires more young people to recognise their potential and make the most of opportunities available to them. ➡️ Swipe through to see highlights from my conversation with him at our Record of Delivery launch roundtable. The full video will be shared soon! 🎥 📖 Read Mziyanda's full story and discover more in the Record of Delivery 2025/2026: westerncape.gov.za/files/wcg… 🔗 See what each department delivered: l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https… Find out more about the Chrysalis Academy programme: chrysalisacademy.org.za/ #GettingItDone #ForYou

Please note: An unofficial taxi go-slow is affecting parts of Cape Town. There are no taxi services in Nyanga and Wynberg, and limited services in Mfuleni, Langa and the Cape Town Station Deck. I urge commuters to use available bus and train services and put their safety first. Our Mobility Departments Information Taxi is assisting commuters at affected ranks.
I urge commuters to remain calm, stay informed and prioritise their safety. Please make use of available alternative transport services where possible. My priority is ensuring that commuters can travel safely and access the services they need.

No more excuses! The Western Cape Government and City of Cape Town are working together to confront taxi violence. I am appalled at this latest outbreak of violence in the taxi industry. I urge all law enforcement agencies to keep working together to bring the situation under control and to track down and arrest those responsible for this senseless bloodshed. At a meeting between government and taxi organisations today, both SANTACO Western Cape and CODETA acknowledge the gravity of the situation and the urgent need to restore stability. The following interventions are being advanced: - Urgent engagement: A further meeting involving CATA and CODETA leadership is being arranged for early next week to address outstanding disputes and work towards a lasting resolution. - Legal action: The department will continue its regulatory processes, including an inquiry into alleged violations by identified taxi associations and an urgent court application to clarify operating rights. - Stronger enforcement: The City has committed to maintaining a strong law enforcement presence in affected areas and supporting the province’s legal action. - Commuter protection: The department is exploring additional transport services should taxi operations be disrupted. Where issues arise among taxi groupings, they must be dealt with within the confines of the law. But if taxi leaders are not prepared to negotiate peacefully, they must expect authorities to take the requisite steps to bring order and the rule of law to the taxi sector. We recognise the importance of the taxi industry in the broader public transport environment. But we will never condone violence that puts commuters and other members of the public in danger. Our priority remains protecting lives and shielding the economy from disruptions; this must be followed by decisive action from the relevant authorities, including the Western Cape Mobility Department.

🚨 FAKE NOTICE! The circulating notice about a public transport shutdown in Cape Town on 29 October 2026 is false and misleading. Do not spread misinformation that causes unnecessary panic and confusion. Verify information through official channels before sharing. Stop the spread of fake news!

It was a pleasure meeting with South Africa's Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Mr Roelf Meyer, following our September visit to Washington, D.C. We discussed trade, investment, tourism and innovation, all areas where the United States is a key partner for the Western Cape, and how stronger ties can drive economic growth in our province and across South Africa. The Western Cape Government will keep building international partnerships that attract investment and create jobs for our residents. #GettingItDone #ForYou

Franschhoek Pass Update: When heavy rain in October 2023 caused 16 slope failures on the Pass, parts of the mountainside gave way onto the road. Five more slips, and erosion at the Du Toits River bridge abutment, followed in May 2026. Teams have been hard at work fixing this important mountain pass. It is expected to open from mid-December to mid-January, with stop/go controls in place. If conditions are unsafe, it will stay closed until it is safe. We are investing in long-term resilience. Soil nails, steel mesh, anchored gabion walls and reinforced concrete are holding the slopes in place, and upgraded drainage is moving stormwater off the road. About 9.57km of the pass is also being widened and upgraded to improve longevity. The R1.165 billion project is planned for completion in July 2027. So far, 94,090 person-days of local labour have been delivered, and 57 local businesses have supplied goods and services. Thank you to Minister @Min_TSimmers and the Department of Infrastructure team for their work on this repair.💪 Pass by pass, road by road. #GettingItDone #ForYou

Tears of joy. Meet Mr and Mrs Rangolie, proud home owners thanks to the Western Cape Government’s housing subsidy programme. Today we launched the Record of Delivery 2025/2026. We invited residents for a conversation about how our programmes have impacted their lives. Wilfred and Yolanda Rangolie told us how they almost lost their home but in October 2025, they received the title deed through our housing subsidy partnership with FNB. We filmed the entire conversation, and more of their stories are coming to our pages soon, in their own words. Keep an eye out.💙 #GettingItDone #ForYou

When a main road (279) near Villiersdorp washed away in storms earlier this year, our officials got to work planning a bypass. The R5 million project will be finished in less than six weeks. This temporary bypass will allow vehicles to travel along this route once again, until a more permanent solution is in place. The project is providing work for 30 people, and local suppliers are providing materials and equipment. Staff are also being trained in bulk layerworks and concrete structures. Thank you to Minister @Min_TSimmers and the Department of Infrastructure team for their work on this repair. Bridge by bridge, road by road. #GettingItDone #ForYou

Learners at six Western Cape technical schools can now leave with industry certifications as well as their matric.👏 Today, @WCMEC_JacoLondt and I launched the Technical Schools Revitalisation Programme at Bellville Technical High School. Nearly 6,700 learners in Grades 10 to 12 and 137 teachers are already part of this initiative, working in partnership with Certify Academy to offer our youth the skills they need for a constantly evolving economy. We are also upgrading workshops, equipment and technology, strengthening teacher training and building partnerships with industry, TVET colleges and tertiary institutions. I want every learner on this programme to have a direct pathway from the classroom to a job, a business or further studies The first group of learners will matriculate in 2028. #GettingItDone #ForYou

Great energy at the Solar and Storage Live Cape Town 2026 Conference!🤩 Thank you to everyone who stopped for a selfie and engaged with me. Over 1,000MW of independent energy has been added to our grid in just two years. More power means more cost-saving options for municipalities. In Hessequa, Eskom's 9% increase was capped at 7% for residents because the municipality has built its own solar energy plant. And we're not stopping there! At the end of September, we commissioned the first municipal-owned solar and battery plant in the country. Our wheeling framework has since been adopted nationally. It’s also exciting to see how many young people want to be part of this growing industry. They are the ones who will benefit most from the work happening now. Thank you to our Western Cape Energy team, led by Alwie Lester, for their work.🤝 #GettingItDone #ForYou

Well done to @CityofCT metro police, and all other agencies involved, for these arrests. This is why we need policing powers decentralised so that local law enforcement can investigate crimes and get convictions. It’s time for a policing model that puts criminals behind bars.
Cape Town Metro Police helped arrest and chase down gang members armed with assault rifles, following the killing of 2 men in Steenberg. This is why we must build a Cape Town Metro Police Detective Unit to ensure criminals like this are not let back on the street and cases actually lead to convictions. This is what will make Cape Town safer for all 🚨

It’s always insightful meeting with the @amazon team. Today we met to discuss jobs, growth and investment in the Western Cape with Michael Punke, James Hickman and Busi Khaba. @amazon has been a partner in our province since 2004, and digital skills training has been a big part of that. These skills lead directly to jobs for our residents and help our economy grow. #ForYou

Two new international boat builds have taken place in the Western Cape this year, and a third is possible before December. Our boatbuilders are attracting work from around the world.🛳️ I am at the African Boating Conference today. The luxury yacht industry is worth about R1 trillion worldwide. When a yacht is built or repaired here, local technicians, suppliers and restaurants benefit. We want to bring more of that work to the Western Cape. World-class boats are built in the Western Cape.👏 #ForYou
