The BURN trial 🔥
@alexzhuDO shows buffered local reduces pain during prostate biopsy
@auawest #WSAUA26
Should we all be using buffered local for our pts?
👏
Really interesting trial in progress (PRESERVE trial) @UroAlsyouf @siadaneshmand @GU_BigWhacks
Randomizing patients 1:1 to facial sparing vs. standard inguinal orchiectomy. Endpoint = PRO’s
Personally have seen a difference in my own experience. Excited to see final results

What is the penetrance of urologic cancers in Lynch Syndrome?
Especially in MSH2 carriers, urologic cancers appear later than other Lynch-associated cancers - but become common after age 50.
From our @UrolOncol review on germline variants in urothelial cancer, using data from Prospective Lynch Syndrome Database. (plsd.eu/)

Meet BCAN Young Investigator Awardee @alexzhuDO
"Sometimes meaningful advances in cancer care come not only from discovering new treatments, but from learning how to use our existing treatments better. I am grateful for this award, which will support our research investigating whether optimizing the timing of BCG therapy can harness the body’s natural immune rhythms to improve outcomes for patients with NMIBC.”

👏 Congratulations to our 15 Research Scholar Awardees!
The awardees are rising researchers advancing earlier detection, more personalized therapies and improved outcomes across urologic disease. This year’s awardees represent a diverse range of research areas—from cancer biology and artificial intelligence to pediatric care and infection prevention.

Thank you so much to @SWOG and all my countless mentors for this incredible experience as the Vogelzang scholar over the past year!
I'm pretty sure @alexzhuDO blew everyone's mind with his #Vogelzang Scholar presentation at #SWOGSpring26. Citing work that he has done with a wide range of exceptional mentors (@spsutkaMD, @JLWrightMD, @PGrivasMDPhD, @wandering_gu, @UroCancer, @DanLinMD, @slernerbcmedu1, et al), he has achieved milestones as a fellow that I can only dream of as a full professor (e.g., enrollment of >300 pts in a single institution IST within 13 months).
Nick V. was the heart & soul of our @SWOG GU committee mtgs. I'm quite confident Nick would agree that Alex is the perfect person to receive an award bearing his name.
And Alex, welcome to @cityofhope!

So incredibly proud of @alexzhuDO presenting his #Vogelzang scholar lecture at #SWOG2026 - Alex is the ultimate clinical trialist, he takes real clinical problems and develops pragmatic trials with practice-changing impact.
Can’t wait to start at City of Hope in summer 2026. Excited to go back home, serve the patients in my community, and further strengthen the world class clinical trials division there!

We are just head over heels that @alexzhuDO will be joining us at @cityofhopeoc! Will indeed be integrating him closely with our #kidneycancer research portfolio - already meeting with him regularly to ensure he will hit the ground running. Many thanks to @PGrivasMDPhD @DanLinMD @JLWrightMD @spsutkaMD @GoreJohn et al for the amazing training at @uwurology prior to his arrival at @cityofhope!

Congratulations to @alexzhuDO and @lisazxy080808! Dr. Zhu presented his research on the impact of arsenic levels on incident urologic cancers in Washington State, while Dr. Zhang discussed post-traumatic stress disorder in adults who underwent childhood voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) testing. Well-deserved recognition for two outstanding presentations!
Great thread by @DrSpratticus on a topic I’ve been asked about by patients many times in the past week

15/x Summary:
- President Biden’s physician followed the current USPSTF recommendation to not perform PSA screening in men >70yo
- However, the USPSTF recommendations are flawed as PCa is common in men >70yo, is often more aggressive, if untreated men are more likely to die of PCa, and many men will live 15+ years.
- Focus should be on increased PSA screening, but reductions in over-dx and over-tx.
- Unfortunately, President Biden’s presentation is not uncommon in men >75yo diagnosed with PCa.
