Hannah Hidalgo and Notre Dame are headed to Rome to open the season vs Villanova (the Pope’s alma mater) in the Eternal City Tip-Off. Two of the preeminent Catholic universities in America playing near the Vatican, where St. Peter is buried. What a way to start the season! ☘️

Yes, indeed! A 🐐 meetup post game happened!!!!!!
LeBron and Caitlin Clark met in the halls of Gainbridge Fieldhouse postgame and chatted for a while. They’ve become friendly in recent years. Clark and Fever assistant Rob Dosier sat courtside for Pacers-76ers.

The guy who kept Shaq and Charles Barkley in line on TV for 37 years used to spend his mornings shaving and dressing his son, who could barely move and breathed through a ventilator. Then he'd go to work and laugh with those guys all night like nothing was going on. Tonight Ernie Johnson said this season will be his last, and Barkley tried to thank him on air and couldn't get the words out. I don't think most people watching that clip know what Ernie was carrying all those years. He and his wife Cheryl adopted Michael from an orphanage outside Bucharest in 1991, when he was 3. He had Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and doctors didn't think he'd make it to his 20s. He lived to 33. When Ernie was home, getting Michael ready in the morning could take an hour and a half, and Ernie did the showering and shaving and dressing himself. In 2006 he told viewers he had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and by the end of October he was back at the desk while he was still going through chemo. When Michael died in 2021, Ernie wasn't on the show that week, and Shaq, Kenny and Chuck spent about six minutes trying to hold it together while they talked about a kid most of America never met. Then last year he had heart bypass surgery, and this summer he turned 70. Ernie's dad pitched in the big leagues and then called Braves games for decades, and he gave his son a rule Ernie's talked about forever: if somebody spikes you at second base, never rub. If you've ever wondered why nobody's been able to copy Inside, that rule is a big part of it. Barkley could say the dumbest thing imaginable, Shaq could fall out of his chair, Kenny could go running to the big board, and Ernie would just pick it up and bring it back to basketball with that yellow legal pad. Those three got to be chaos because the guy in the middle never made his own stuff the show. He still calls hosting a "get-to job," and he was calling it that the same year he buried his son. So when Charles Barkley, who's roasted pretty much everybody alive on live TV, can't finish a sentence to the man, that's why.
Charles Barkley and the guys give Ernie Johnson his flowers. This is a must watch. (via @ohnohedidnt24)

Sixers star Tyrese Maxey on meeting Caitlin Clark for the first time: “Honestly, shoot. She’s another person I like to watch. She cold. So seeing her today was really cool. Sometimes you try not to fan out, you know? It was really cool seeing her.” I love how much genuine respect NBA stars (young & vets) have for Caitlin 🥹

Caitlin Clark has an unusual development problem: almost nothing she tries is allowed to remain an experiment. A missed shot becomes an argument. A turnover becomes a verdict. A difficult stretch becomes evidence for people who decided what she was before the game began. That is a strange environment in which to learn. Improvement requires trying things you cannot yet execute consistently. A different pace coming off a screen. A new counter when the defense takes away your preferred pass. A shot you need to develop, even if another option feels safer today. Those possessions can look worse before they make a player better. And Clark has to navigate that process while every performance feeds a much larger conversation about her place in basketball. The temptation is to demand two incompatible things: expand your game, but never let us see the unfinished parts. That is not a development plan. It is a request for a finished product. Her challenge is to separate useful criticism from the daily referendum. Coaches identifying a recurring mistake deserve attention. Strangers turning one possession into a declaration about her ceiling do not deserve equal influence. The distinction matters. Ignoring every criticism would be as limiting as absorbing all of it. Clark needs room to become more complete without feeling obligated to prove she is already complete every night. The audience can argue about what each game means. Her job is to leave the season with answers she did not have when it began. Greatness needs ambition. It also needs permission to look unfinished.

Saw this on Facebook the other day and wanted to share bc I resonate with it deeply: Someone saw me wearing my Eagles jacket and jokingly said, “How are you wearing that? They’re garbage.” My first instinct? Throat punch. Obviously. 😂 But it actually got me thinking about something I’ve always believed…LOYALTY. It’s one of the most important qualities a person can have. And I think being a sports fan teaches you a hell of a lot about it. Because anybody can cheer when you’re winning…and I’m not just talking about in a game. Anybody can stand beside you when life is good, the scoreboard is in your favor and everything is going your way. But what about when you’re losing in life? When things get ugly? When everyone else has an opinion about why you aren’t worth cheering for anymore? Who’s still standing there? That’s what I pay attention to in life. I don’t have a lot of patience for people whose loyalty depends on how well things are going. The ones who love you when you’re successful but suddenly become spectators when you’re struggling. The ones who want a seat at your table when you’re winning but can’t be bothered to check on you when you’re barely holding it together. I’ve never understood that. Because the people I love? I’m in. All the way. You can have a bad season. You can make mistakes. You can fall flat on your face. You can go through a stretch where absolutely nothing seems to go right. I’m not going anywhere. Now, that doesn’t mean I won’t tell you when you’re screwing up. Trust me, I will. Just ask anyone who has ever watched an Eagles game with me. But there’s a difference between holding someone accountable and abandoning them when they’re no longer winning. And I think we’ve gotten those two things confused. Loyalty isn’t proven when everything is easy. It’s proven when staying would be a whole lot harder than leaving. I want people in my corner who don’t need me to be having a winning season to believe in me. And that’s exactly the kind of person I try to be for the people I love. So yeah, I’ll wear my Eagles jacket proudly. Good season, bad season, embarrassing season. Whatever. Because I’m the same with my team as I am with my people. I ride until the wheels fall off. And when they do? I’m running beside you. Also…Go Birds. 💚🦅

Chazadi Wright Correction Post Iowa heads into the 2026–27 season with high-octane backcourt depth anchored by junior guard Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright. Coming off a valuable sophomore campaign in Iowa City where she appeared in 31 games and averaged 12.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest while shooting 44.0% from beyond the arc. Wright proved to be a reliable floor general and perimeter spark. Known for her high basketball IQ, crisp distribution, and disruptive defensive energy—highlighted by a season-best 12-assist performance against Minnesota and multiple multi-steal outings—the Atlanta native provides crucial playmaking stability. Armed with increased experience and a smooth shooting stroke, Wright is poised to take on an expanded role as a vital offensive engine and backcourt catalyst for Jan Jensen’s Hawkeyes in the Big Ten. #Hawkeyes #BigTenWBB #CollegeBasketball #WomenHoops #IowaBasketball
