“Saudi Arabia’s alliance with the United States, influence across the Sunni world and custodianship of Mecca and Medina directly challenge the Islamic Republic’s ambition to lead the Muslim world under revolutionary Shia rule.”
Clear as day.
A senior Khamenei adviser has threatened Saudi Arabia with relentless proxy warfare unless it obeys the Islamic Republic.
Mohammad Javad Larijani said Saudi Arabia must expel American forces and withdraw from Yemen if it wants to survive continued Houthi attacks. He also warned that countries joining Saudi Arabia’s regional alliance would be bombed.
Larijani is not an obscure commentator. He is a former deputy foreign minister, a long-time regime strategist and a senior adviser to the Supreme Leader.
His threat exposes the proxy arrangement the Islamic Republic routinely denies. The regime claims the Houthis act independently, yet one of Khamenei’s advisers is publicly presenting Houthi violence as a weapon for enforcing Iranian demands.
Since 2016, the Houthis have launched more than 1,100 ballistic missiles and 1,100 drones at Saudi Arabia, alongside explosive boats and naval mines. Their attacks have targeted airports, oil facilities, cities and other civilian infrastructure.
The Houthis could not have built this capability alone. The Islamic Republic supplied the weapons, components, training and technical expertise that transformed them into a long-range strike force.
For the regime, Saudi Arabia is not merely a strategic competitor. It is an ideological enemy alongside Israel.
Saudi Arabia’s alliance with the United States, influence across the Sunni world and custodianship of Mecca and Medina directly challenge the Islamic Republic’s ambition to lead the Muslim world under revolutionary Shia rule.
Khomeini declared that the House of Saud could not be forgiven and challenged its fitness to administer Islam’s holiest sites. His successors turned that hostility into military strategy by building armed networks around Saudi Arabia.
Larijani is saying the quiet part openly. The Houthis are not simply fighting a Yemeni conflict. Their missiles and drones are being used to force Saudi Arabia from Yemen, drive American forces from the region and weaken a rival for leadership of the Muslim world.
The Islamic Republic throws the stones through its proxy and then hides its hand. This time, one of Khamenei’s own advisers exposed who is setting the terms.
