A free Steam game has been released where you unbox an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX in 2026 You’ll need at least an RTX 4070 to run the game properly, which was made to celebrate the graphics card’s 20th anniversary

A mobile comparison test On the left is the current Discord Android client, and on the right is the new version we’re developing in Rust

We didn't forget about mobile, especially Android. Inspired by React Native, it drives the OS-native view layer through the same Rust codebase as the new desktop app. I think it might be the most responsive app on my phone now?

The new Discord client using less RAM is just part of the story. Clicking around feels instant, I can't go back. Check out the boot time.

We've been early adopters of Rust since 2018 and a lot of our infra, voice tech, and even some of the current client is already Rust, the holy grail was getting the whole client there. That means Electron goes away, and so does React Native, mobile keeps native UI but shares app code with desktop via Rust. We hope to get it into testing with users soonβ„’. (And it's not Tauri, it's GPUI, so good guess everyone.) Alright, back to staring at the WoW Forever login screen.

Valve has changed how to verify your age for Australian Steam users. Instead of requiring a credit card, there is a new option now: - Automatic Age Verification: "your account age verified if it is at least nine years old and has had a consistent email address or billing info."

Discord is rebuilding its apps from scratch in Rust! Discord CTO Stanislav Vishnevskiy confirmed they are ditching Electron and React Native. The new client is fully written in Rust and uses GPUI for rendering. Early preview show massive performance gains: - RAM usage dropped to ~290 MB (down from ~2 GB) - Single, lightweight process instead of endless Chromium helpers
