Liverpool’s oldest surviving player has died, aged 96
Liverpool’s oldest surviving ex-player, Albert Childs, has passed away at the age of 96.
Childs joined the Reds as an amateur back in 1952, earning the nickname ‘Bert’ and making two appearances.
His Liverpool debut came at Anfield in a First Division clash with Burnley in September 1953, with the hosts running out 4-0 winners.
Childs then retained his place at right-back in the starting lineup the following week away to Charlton, as the Reds lost 6-0.
He also represented Northern Nomads, Bishop Auckland, South Liverpool and Wigan Rovers in his career, and died on Friday, October 23, 2026.
Childs lived the dream of many millions of Liverpool supporters around the world, playing on the Anfield turf.
We send our best wishes to Albert’s friends and family at his difficult time.
