For a time, I would watch TNG every afternoon on the small TV I was passed down from my grandparents that could only get two channels. Thank you, Patrick Steward, for the many hours of enlightening entertainment. RIP.

Want to pay MORE to file your taxes? Congress may mandate #OccupationalLicensing for tax preparers, 12 yrs after courts struck down #IRS's attempt to do so via regs. @IJ & a #freemarket coalition oppose this costly mandate, which will increase costs to #consumers for tax prep + burden nearly half a million tax preparers, likely driving upwards of 100,000 small tax prep businesses to close shop. The #licensing provision is in the TAS Act, which has already passed the Senate, so it's up to the House of Representatives to stop this burdensome new licensing scheme. @HouseGOP @TaxNotes covers our coalition letter to @SpeakerJohnson here: taxnotes.com/featured-news/c…

Sad news. @IJ's fight for an animal sanctuary in North Carolina has come to an end after the state supreme court declined to hear the case. Kim and her family keep animals that have nowhere else to go, some that the county animal control ask them to take. Zoning rules keep them from freely operating, even though their neighbors support the work. Release here: ij.org/press-release/animal-…

The day SCOTUS denied cert. in @IJ's SWAT-takings cases, it also denied cert. in another police-power takings case called O'Donnell v. Chicago. There, Justice Sotomayor (joined by Gorsuch) wrote separately to urge further percolation. A few thoughts . . . 1/
Today, SCOTUS denied cert. in @IJ's SWAT-takings cases. Justices Sotomayor and Gorsuch wrote respecting denial in the related case of O'Donnell v. Chicago. As in IJ's previous petition in Baker v. McKinney, the Justices said the issue would benefit from even more percolation.

Excellent coverage of our lawsuit challenging this now nearly 20 month seizure—a pithy explanation for those that'd prefer not to read the full 3-page motion and 16-page memo...

The IRS showed up and took cash, computers, and phones from a Phoenix area small business. 18 months later: no criminal charges, no forfeiture notice, and no word on when the property might be returned. The government can't take your stuff indefinitely: azfamily.com/2026/10/21/glen…

Joe's 4th-generation farm was ruined after the Department of Labor (acting as prosecutor, judge, and jury) handed him a $550,000 liability for alleged regulation violations and back wages. In 3 weeks, the Supreme Court will hear Joe's case and consider whether the Constitution requires the government to press its case in a neutral—not administrative—court.

Last February, DHS and the IRS raided 19 Phoenix-area money services businesses and seized money without ever charging anyone with a crime. Today, @IJ teamed up with one of those businesses, Ayala's Mini Market to file a federal lawsuit. 🧵 ij.org/press-release/glendal…

Even if the government has a warrant, it can't take your stuff and ghost you. The IRS took money, phone, and computers from more than a dozen Arizona businesses and has done nothing for 18 months. That violates the Constitution and @IJ is suing: youtube.com/watch?v=IN9ut1uf…

Both of @IJ’s SWAT-raid takings cert. petitions have been relisted from the long conference. Hadley v. South Bend and Pena v. Los Angeles will be re-conferenced this Friday.

I think it's actually 7 deputies (so far) in Richmond County: Corey Whitfield, Jaquarius Yarbrough, John McKenzie, Curtis Hoskins, Joshua Johnson, Sean Morrow, and Jose Ferrer. Out of 237 total sworn officers 🙃

The only story, other than Flock, in my 35+ year career that united both sides of the political spectrum was civil asset forfeiture at airport gates. Innocent people had their money taken. We put an end to that nationwide. Here's how we did it: youtu.be/EIy4pGCtmyE?si=8c8b…

We are litigating a case challenging these rent laws as a violation of the Constitution. Because the Constitution exists to protect individual rights from mobs like this one. nitter.cf/FreeRangeLawyer/status…
Almost two years ago, I posted about Justice Thomas's opinion encouraging more targeted challenges to New York's rent stabilization law. Yesterday, we filed a case responding to that call. It's took a huge amount of work to get from there to here. Months and months talking to building owners to understand their situation; visiting apartment buildings to see the situation on the ground; reading the rent stabilization regulations cover-to-cover; doing a deep dive on the Supreme Court's takings jurisprudence over the last hundred years. The result is a lawsuit that not only can win but should win--that presents the strongest possible challenge to a deeply irrational regime that is harming building owners and tenants alike.

This WSJ video about rent stabilization in NYC has gone viral in crazy-housing-activist circles, and it's been interesting to watch the insane responses. Total economic illiteracy. Naked hatred for landlords. Open calls to seize private property.
These NYC apartments are standing empty, not because the owners don't want to rent them, but because rent stabilization laws prohibit them from charging enough to earn back the costs of necessary repairs. My latest for @WSJFreeEx
