ALT Georgina Hobden: My research focuses on clinical service improvement and intervention development for psychological changes after stroke. Informed by the Medical Research Council framework for complex intervention research, I am currently using a mixed methods approach to (i) identify gaps in services for people with cognitive impairment after stroke, (ii) co-produce with key stakeholders an intervention to (partially) address these gaps, and (lil) establish whether the intervention is feasible to be tested in a randomised controlled trial. I am committed to integrating stakeholder perspectives meaningfully at each stage of the research process [..] I have investigated the associations between cardiovascular and cerebrovascular health, combining state-of-the-art vascular ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging to investigate the complex relationships between arterial stiffness, cerebrovascular flow patterns and the rate of progression of white matter degeneration.

ALT Professor Holly Bridge: "I am a Professor of Neuroscience at Oxford specialising in the human visual system. Over the past decade my research group has investigated how visual information is processed in the brain after someone has had a stroke that affects their vision. We have addressed this using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), measuring of visual fields and behavioural testing. We have recently completed a study investigating how visual rehabilitation can improve vision in stroke survivors and are currently analysing these data. One of the major aims of my lab is to improve visual rehabilitation programmes and, in the long term, make them accessible to all. By bringing together researchers and clinician with a variety of expertise in different brain systems and methods, the Stroke Recovery Research Hub will provide an amazing opportunity to work collaboratively and learn from each other with the goal of accelerating development of rehabilitation tools"

ALT Dr Matthew Weightman is a postdoctoral researcher at the WIN. Here’s what he has to say: “I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Welcome Centre for Integrative Imaging (WIN) in the Plasticity Group. I am broadly interested in the neural control of movement and how individuals can learn and adapt new motor skills in the context of health and brain injury. My current work focuses on the role of sleep in consolidation of motor learning/memory after stroke. More specifically, I am interested in how we can improve sleep after stroke, whether improved sleep in stroke patients relates to better functional recovery, and if physiological processes that occur during sleep can be enhanced post-stroke to boost consolidation. The overall aim of my research is to help inform and improve future rehabilitation strategies. I hope the Oxford Stroke Recovery Research Hub can help to foster stronger collaborations between stroke researchers and clinicians…….”
