#WATCH | Dibrugarh, Assam | Bikul Deka, Chairman, Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited, says, "Today is a very important day for the people of Dibrugarh and the people of Assam. We had read in our books that in the British times, steamships used to travel from Dibrugarh. But after independence, the Congress did not take any steps to utilise and commercialise the Brahmaputra River and set up a transportation system. When the BJP government came to Assam, CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and our Union Minister Sonowal, both leaders, worked on this, developed it, and built a river port in Dibrugarh. With this river port, we can utilise it; we can benefit from it. We thought about this, so we took our own product, 540 metric tons, and today we are going to Bangladesh with it, which will help us. Using this, we will take our products via the Bangladesh-India route to Haldia, Varanasi, and other places in India. We will get the facility to market our products, not only here but also outside. This will also create job opportunities for our youth."

Dibrugarh, Assam | Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal says, "After a long time, the historic waterway trade has resumed through the newly constructed Bogibeel Ship Port. This has been made possible due to PM Modi's vision and his prioritisation of the North East as part of 'Astha Lakshimi'. Congress was in power for 70 years, but during their time, the Brahmaputra River was known throughout the country for floods and soil erosion. They never considered utilising it for creating new employment opportunities."
