"Don't repost my art" and "Don't reupload my fic" are the same thing, I'm confused as to why people are surprised that authors are defensive and protective of their works the same way artists are.
people who don't contribute anything to the fandom (don't create artwork, fics, or support writers and artists) do not deserve to have an opinion on how the work is shared, and at this point don't even deserve the access to any of it. this will kill all fandoms.

i really don't think we should be mass-sharing epubs of fanfic, man. even though it's public, it just seems rude and inconsiderate to take the distribution away from writers like that. go to your favourite authors' social medias and politely ask if they'd be willing to share.

put it this way: i'm a fanartist, and i'm totally alright with people printing my fanart out for their personal enjoyment. i would not be okay with someone printing out 200 copies of my fanart to hand out for free at an event without my permission or knowledge.
since ao3 is down... how about we support fic writers through their social media, threadfics, give them some love, read a book, and maybe even try to write or create something ourselves? i've been wanting to get back into writing fics. perfect timing.
