i agree, and would like to add on that while i believe a lot of people are acting in good faith on how they feel about the current state of the media vs TS, i say this as nicely as possible: you’re too online, you’ve lost context. i think, at its core, the thread exposing the possibility of a paid-for smear campaign is interesting, informative, and a reminder that we must question the narratives we are confronted with online both in smaller fandom spaces & in larger spaces (discussions of local/federal/global politics, gender roles, equality, tech, etc). so much of our culture is now created & fostered in spaces that allow for bad actors to steer conversations. these conversations have wide-reaching impacts on our lives in ways that we haven’t fully examined yet. that being said, taking unconfirmed information from unofficial sources and spreading it as confirmed fact, no matter how compelling the argument may be, to the point where you’re discussing organizing a billboard to display a response TO that (uncomfirmed-but-persuasive) information is going too far. it means that you are engaging purely in a conversation that was born & steered in snark, and snark continues to shape it even in your opposition to it. there are ways to raise awareness (that i support & agree should be happening!) about the manufactured conversations happening re: Taylor Swift. that cannot be the only conversation we’re having about her, though. redirecting your attention to organic & exciting conversations about the things that matter is the way we overcome manufactured narratives. reach back out to the people you’ve formed a community with & connection to about the things that are important to you.
