my own spam-in-the-can
journey a mere
blink of an eternal eye,
a mere blade of grass
in the endless prairie
of God’s intimate love.

Five years after the Taliban seized power, I reiterate my warning: the international community must not allow the Taliban’s regime of repression and institutionalised discrimination to become normalised or accepted as the status quo. The systematic denial of fundamental rights is devastating the lives of Afghans, particula women and girls. This demands urgent, sustained and principled international action.
🟠 I call on States to ensure that engagement with the de facto authorities does not confer legitimacy in the absence of measurable, independently verified improvements in human rights. Serious violations must have consequences. Accountability must not be sacrificed for political expediency, and those responsible must be brought to justice.
➡️ I am gravely concerned by the deportation of Afghans from Pakistan, alongside the deteriorating humanitarian situation and civilian casualties resulting from ongoing hostilities. States must uphold the principle of non-refoulement, protect civilians and ensure sustained humanitarian assistance. No one should be returned to a situation where they face a real risk of persecution or serious human rights violations.
🔴 The systematic assault on children’s rights is equally alarming. The denial of education to girls, child and forced marriage, child labour and exposure to violence are robbing children of their childhood and jeopardising an entire generation’s future. These violations must not be overlooked or treated as inevitable.
🇦🇫 Afghanistan’s children must not be condemned to a future defined by exclusion, discrimination and violence. Their rights, dignity and opportunities must be protected.
The international community must stand unequivocally with the Afghan people. The normalisation of repression is unacceptable; impunity must not prevail. States must translate their commitments into concrete action to protect human rights, ensure accountability and uphold equality, justice and human dignity.

Benjamin Franklin’s glass armonica used to be banned in some German towns, amid fears that its ethereal sound could cause illness or madness.
Before those bans, its sound inspired Mozart to write Adagio in C, K. 356 (K. 617a), in 1791.
Its ethereal sound later became surrounded by strange fears and legends.
Have you ever heard it? 🎵

One aspect of Nepal I found fascinating were Mani walls. As I understand it. Families would pay to have someone carve these stones and they are placed on these walls as a blessing or prayer.

Don't tell that to anyone else, but I'm secretly studying my 3rd classical language (Classical Hebrew, Classical Greek), after claiming I would for the past few years.
Picked up the excellent ''The Cambridge Introduction to Sanskrit'' by Ruppel, a book that can be used for self-study, which is my case!
The Devanagari script is introduced right away (l always put more emphasis early on, on understanding a script before phonetics) and so far I love how the syntax/grammar has been presented.
I have been using online material for the phonetic part of the learning process, although, pedagogically, the material isn't that great, sadly!
Some may ask, why would learn an ancient language, such as Sanskrit?
I've always been fascinated by them, first and foremost. I also love challenging myself intellectually as a grow older and learning a new language is pretty tough and valuable work at that.
