People think money has ruined football but the sight of a rapist dictator standing next to a corrupt football official in front of a big gold trophy at a competition bankrolled by Saudi Arabia reminds me the game still belongs to us.

For almost 100 years since the time of Keynes and FDR we've known austerity is counterproductive. It reduces effective demand and disincentivises production. Why do the politicians inflict it on us? Because private investors who have bought the politicians - the 'creditor class' playing the markets with the big institutional funds - are terrified by the prospect of elected governments issuing interest-free public money and keeping interest rates on private loans low to boost demand and invest in utilities and services. It would show people that, really, we don't need them or their money. It's what makes them truly afraid. Besides, during a recession they can go bearish and buy up cheap stock ready for an upturn. It's win-win for them. To keep things as they are, these parasites who live on investment returns, compound interest and bond yields must make sure that we're the ones who are afraid. They enjoy seeing people worry and suffer to secure their 'confidence' - privatise everything and keep to the 'rule of 40'! - and beg for their loans. Watching us work harder for less and run around like blue-arsed flies assures them that their power still holds. They don't care about the sick and disabled - shirkers, all of them. It's the icing on the cake when they see people who regard themselves as 'smart' admire them and try to join their club. "It's the system, Steve, it's the system"! Yeah, I know it is, but these are the people who keep it going. If we can't organise ourselves politically to subjugate these ghouls and revive a sensible mixed economy their rule will continue across the generations for the foreseeable future. I don't want this for my grandkids. nitter.cf/jeremycorbyn/status/10…
