[…] Experts also pointed to shortcomings in investigations, with cases often abandoned before sufficient evidence is collected. The difficulties of obtaining evidence across borders could partly explain why authorities have relied on immigration offences, including visa violations, to deal with foreign nationals arrested at suspected scam centres rather than pursue more complex prosecutions under the Computer Crimes Act. sundaytimes.lk/261101/news/i…
When contacted by The Sunday Morning, Data Protection Authority Director General (DG) Dimuth Bhashitha Atapattu explained that the PDPA, although introduced in 2022, had not yet come fully into operation. Under the timetable announced for the law, key provisions governing the processing of personal data and the obligations of data controllers and processors are due to take effect on 1 January 2027.
Until then, organisations have been given time to prepare their internal systems and compliance arrangements. “If an organisation, whether a data controller or a data processor, collects data, we have given it until 1 January to prepare all its internal compliance arrangements,” he said.
He also stressed that organisations should collect only the information necessary for the purpose for which it is required.

As if there weren't already enough security incidents, the Binance hack is shaping up to be one of the biggest crypto breaches in recent years. What a fun couple of weeks😬
readme.lk/binance-hack-may-h…
Binance's initial investigation suggests that the security incident may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop, which allowed an attacker to gain access to a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. We have found no evidence of any wallet private key leak. We will share a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the facts are fully verified.
The estimated total impact sits at around $6.3B. We have worked with blockchain partners to freeze affected assets, with ~$3 billion frozen on-chain so far.
Binance will cover all losses from the SAFU fund and the company’s funds. User funds are safe. We will also publish an updated Proof of Reserves once the remediation is complete.
As an immediate precaution, Binance has:
- temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals while security checks are completed;
- revoked the affected address authorisation;
- engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds.
Our teams are working around the clock to resolve this issue safely and thoroughly. We are working closely with our law enforcement partners to confirm the identity of these criminals and bring them to justice.
Please rely only on official Binance channels for updates. Please feel free to contact Binance Customer Support if you have any further questions.

Japan’s cybersecurity practitioners have long relied on what was arguably their one competitive advantage: the language barrier. AI has effectively dismantled that moat. Japan already spends less on cybersecurity than its G7 counterparts, and with the emergence of AI-powered cyberattacks, this once-perceived advantage is rapidly becoming a thing of the past.
The question now is whether Japan’s cybersecurity posture can adapt quickly enough to this new reality.
Japan is facing an intense wave of AI-powered cyberattacks that’s laid bare the vulnerability of one of the world’s largest economies to a new breed of hacking. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
Our teams are aware of reports of a potential security issue and are actively investigating. User funds are completely safe.
Our security teams are reviewing all relevant information with urgency, and we will provide updates through official Binance channels as soon as we have verified information.
Users should remain cautious of scams and should not trust unofficial links, messages, or requests for account information.
Little known fact: @Ryanair founder, Tony Ryan’s son, Captain Cathal Ryan married Tess de Kretser, a Sri Lankan-German who worked for Sri Lankan Airlines. Their eldest daughter, Danielle Ryan, a well-known Irish actress, philanthropist, and heiress to the family's airline fortune is therefore part Sri Lankan descent.
Shame on @Ryanair for their continued discrimination.
Has anyone experienced discriminatory gate personnel @Ryanair in Dublin ? I with my family just did and it was shocking. The tone of address and the mishandling of procedure and threatening behavior. Unacceptable for any passenger. First bad experience in Dublin

A major milestone for digital accountability in Sri Lanka: The RTI Commission has held that Dialog Axiata PLC is a "Public Authority" under Sec 43(g) of the RTI Act, as it operates under a State licence and utilizes public spectrum held in trust. (Hashtag Generation v Dialog Axiata).
Important legal caveat: This decision only settles threshold jurisdiction; it does not automatically order disclosure of TRCSL directive records. Dialog can still argue exemptions under Section 5 at the substantive hearing. A critical case to watch for public resources & transparency.
