Heads up @Netlify DNS has been compromised & attackers are actively redirecting dapps to drainer domains.

We’ve analyzed the malicious Claude Code extension distributed through Cursor’s marketplace and subsequently removed. We confirmed that neither Microsoft’s VS Code Marketplace extension nor Anthropic’s npm package was affected.

The Origin Story of Github Copilot: In 2020, @GitHub had just acquired my startup, Semmle, and the CEO, @natfriedman, gave me free rein to find our next product. At the time, I had a bee in my bonnet: GitHub had more data than anyone else about developer behavior, but it wasn’t using that data to build new products. I started exploring how to change that. In June 2020, I got early access to GPT-3 and saw its potential to write code, especially if trained on the code on GitHub. It was the obvious project to work on. It could generate a little code on its own, but almost always got it wrong. So I gave the model a set of 50 programming puzzles, the kind I used to set at Oxford entrance interviews. I asked the model to solve each puzzle 1,000 times, using automated tests to check it. Given enough attempts, it got almost all of them right. That's when I knew it would be able to code. I assembled a small initial team of ~10 people to work on what became GitHub Copilot. The first two people who joined were co-founders of the project: @thewunderalbert and @alexgraveley Fortunately key people at OpenAI shared our vision, and it was the perfect partnership at the perfect time with @sama, @gdb, @ilyasut, @DarioAmodei and Sam McCandlish (months before Anthropic was born!), @npew and several others. OpenAI trained the model behind it, Codex, and we built the product around it. It ran inside VS Code and suggested lines of code and functions as you typed. The VS Code team, led by @ErichGamma, moved mountains to give us exactly what we needed. The Azure AI team of Misha Bilenko also helped make it scalable. When we launched the technical preview in June 2021, it hit 1.2 million users in 12 months. It was an instant hit with developers and helped write billions of lines of code. It also left me with an uncomfortable thought. The models had learned to code from public source code, and public source code has a lot of vulnerabilities in it. It was easier than ever to write vulnerable code, and developers were shipping it faster than ever. But, I knew that if AI could write the code, it could find the holes in it too. It was imperative that defenders got it before attackers did. In 2023, I left GitHub to build @Xbow to do exactly that. Since then, we've already helped our customers find and fix more than 14,000 zero-days and the work has only just begun. The same team that started the AI coding revolution is now leading the charge on AI security.

The agenda looks stacked, @aditichoprax . Kudos. Super excited for the AI, AA, governance, and builder support discussions @arbitrum , @ArbitrumDevs #ArbiverseMumbai. Looking forward to learning and meeting fellow builders in #Mumbai . 🙌 cc @hackmum

We identified a security incident affecting a modified Claude Code VS Code extension accessed through our Cursor IDE extension marketplace, impacting at most 5,000 users. This malicious version of the extension was not developed by Anthropic. It does not impact other extensions downloaded from the cursor.com/marketplace, Grok Bot, Grok or our other SpaceXSI products. In response, we took down our extension marketplace this afternoon, worked with relevant providers to neutralize the malware, and have reinstated the marketplace after confirming there is no further risk. If affected, please review instructions in this blog post to understand how to find the malicious package and establish a path to mitigate any potential impact. We are asking all customers update to Claude Code for VS Code version 2.1.314: cursor.com/blog/claude-code-…

We promised "code over keynotes" and the community delivered for @hacktoberfest #HF26Mumbai . 18 working projects shipped in one afternoon. The energy was so high, judging was delayed by 3 hours because nobody wanted to stop coding. 🔥 Read the recap 👇
Most tech events measure success by talks. @hacktoberfest #HackDay #HF26Mumbai measured it by progress. 🚀 No keynotes. No panels. Just builders writing code It was supposed to end at 5:30 PM but it wrapped up at 8:30 PM. Nobody wanted to stop building. 🚀 A quick recap 🧵

An absolutely GOATed example of domain knowledge being important I'm working on my video editor. I know enough about phonetics to know that certain consonants can fiddle around with silence detection. I tell my agent that. The word 'fricative' is enough for it to start busting out full IPA (international phonetic alphabet) and we brainstorm which consonants are the most troublesome. Turns out, knowing things is really fucking valuable.

We're donating Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation (@AgenticAIFdn), the same foundation we donated MCP to. Since December 2025, 70+ agent platforms have integrated the standard, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and VS Code. Here's what that means for you:

October has been an absolute nightmare for software > Railway - customer secrets exposure > LiteLLM - malicious PyPI + Docker releases > Zeabur - infrastructure breached > OpenCode - AI API keys exposed > OVHcloud CLI - official binaries backdoored > Rank Math PRO - malware in official plugin > TeamUpdraft - customer data compromised > ConnectWise - cloud backup identities compromised > Tensorlake - npm package infected > SubQuery - backdoored npm package > GhostAction - GitHub repos with malicious workflows > PHP - critical RCE vulnerabilities > Node.js - security vulnerabilities patched > eMudhra - certificate authority keys compromised > Tailscale - eMudhra incident At this point, the biggest security risk might not be the code we write, but the code we trust...

wow this is bad! ENTIRETY of PingCap database used by linkedin, flipkart, airbnb etc. has been copied and stolen due to customer credentials being stored directly in support tickets (LOL) Attackers ran exfiltration directly on their cloud (LOL) pipeline ran for 22 days, exfiltrating data every 6 hours and NO ONE noticed. Worse, PingCap denies all of it. Average SRE salary is $300,000 at PingCap btw

I read this and I'm terrified, the situation seems intractable. In the python ecosystem alone every cpython install, venv, UV is at risk. Don't get my started on npm, pnpm, yarn, go, rust. My current 2026 security posture: stay home and only connect to the internet from a trusted ISP. The winter is coming. discuss.python.org/t/informa…

Some stats on #php2shell. In the 10 hours before it was publicly announced, across the @Cloudflare network we saw thousands of attempts to exploit it. That jumped to tens of thousands in the 45 minutes post announcement, hundreds of thousands within 2 hours, and millions now.

PHP sites behind Cloudflare already have an initial set of WAF rules deployed for the known exploit vectors in these vulnerabilities. The rules are available to all customers, including free. We are seeing early attacks emerging and are updating mitigations as new vectors show up. This is a STOPGAP only. Patch as soon as @ThePHPF releases the update at 14:00 UTC today.
The PHP security team is giving advance notice: Upcoming security release Wed, Oct 21st 2026, 14:00UTC, two critical vulnerabilities, both rated CVSSv4 9.2. PHP users are encouraged to prepare to update. Earlier release if details become public or active exploit evidence.

Cloudflare open-sourced the security audit skill that seeded its own vulnerability hunting harness. Your coding agent can now run it on your code. How it works, in 6 phases: → maps your codebase → hunts for bugs area by area so nothing gets skipped → sends every finding to a fresh agent that didn't find it, to confirm it's real → writes structured results → verifies each record again, independently → writes the final report You get a findings file split into confirmed, needs validation and rejected, so you fix the real problems first. Install: npx skills add github.com/cloudflare/securi… --skill security-audit Then open your agent in your project and type: "security audit this codebase" MIT licensed, 31.3K stars.
