In Behind the Ask, Nina and Gabriel share what the BackaBuddy campaign has meant. Beyond the donations, it’s the messages that still bring tears: people keeping Chelsea and Felix in their thoughts and surrounding them with love.

Friendly heads up for all our NPOs and charity leaders out there: Giving Season actually starts now, not in December 🇿🇦✨
If you wait until the year-end rush to tell your story, it’s so easy to get buried in the noise. Starting early gives your community time to actually connect with your mission and build momentum together.
Drop your campaign link in the replies if you’re already getting live, or share what your NPO is working on for the end of the year! 👇 – at Hibberdene, South Africa
95 donors. R50,600 raised. Sindy’s BackaBuddy campaign has passed its R35,000 goal. 🤍
After the tragic loss of her four-year-old son, SAHETI school moms came together for the woman who watched over their children at the gates.
The campaign is intended to ease her financial worries while she grieves. A meaningful gesture of care during a heartbreaking time.

13-year-old Zulfeeq collapsing before rugby practice and facing a severe brain injury is something no family should ever have to walk through alone 💔
His big dream was always to wear the green and gold as a Springbok. Today, his family has one wish: to bring their boy home safely.

Drop a word of strength or a ❤️ for Zulfeeq in the comments, let’s wrap this family in Mzansi love!
Ayakha Godlwana running into a burning building to save his neighbour Doddy (and her dogs) is still the purest thing to happen to Mzansi this year 🇿🇦❤️
He says he just did it because someone needed help, but watching everyone step in to walk alongside him and back his journey has been incredible to see. Real Ubuntu in real time.
What’s a small act of kindness someone’s done for you recently that stuck with you?
Oh my word, the team at The Lavender Project just finished their first counselling room at Milnerton SAPS and I’m actually emotional.
They turned a cold police station room into a proper safe space for trauma and GBV survivors - fresh white walls, soft cushions, toys for kids, care packages, the works. It’s amazing what happens when community care shows up to restore basic human dignity on someone’s worst day.
What’s one small thing a local initiative in your area did recently that made you super proud to live there? Drop it below, I need all the good news today 💜👇
A rescue vessel taking shape. A community standing beside Joshua. A rescued jackal pup growing stronger. South African dancers and a young rugby player reaching for the world stage.
There’s still plenty of good happening here. 🇿🇦💛

Slade van der Walt was swept out to sea at Strand Beach on 2 Sept, and his family is refusing to give up the search. 💔
While official rescue efforts have ended, his family is doing everything to keep search drones, boats, and shoreline teams active so his daughter can get answers. 🌊

Everything you need to know about funding that forgotten dream: news.backabuddy.co.za/2026/0…
One week, Bella was building brand campaigns and DJing. The next, doctors told her that her heart was functioning at just 25%.
At 24, acute myocarditis and endobronchial TB changed everything.
More than 300 people have helped raise R354,000+, giving Bella the care and time she needs to recover. Today, her heart function is up to 30%, a hopeful step forward. 💜

Six weeks. That’s all Matt got with baby Felix before he passed away on 19 June. 💔
It’s been an utterly heartbreaking time for Chelsea, but seeing 178 people step up to raise over R228,000 to give her and the baby some breathing room proves how powerful a real community is.💜

149 people raised more than R151,000 in about 24 hours for three-year-old Peyton following a severe burn accident.
The campaign later moved beyond R250,000, giving his family a little more room to focus on him instead of carrying the financial weight alone.
South Africa, this is what showing up can look like. 💜

Ncedo Gomba was a champion to many. To Addo and Maverick, he was simply Dad.
Now, friends and strangers are gathering around his boys, carrying forward the care and future he dreamed of for them.

5 South Africans showing us what courage and community look like. 💙

Themba has spent 9 years growing fresh veggies to feed school kids in Eswatini, all while pushing through a painful back injury at 58. 💚
He’s working so hard to finish his home and keep his kids in school, so a group of us is stepping up to walk alongside him, covering his medical scans, school fees, and home build directly.
Johan’s campaign started with a single R200 donation.
Then someone else chipped in. Then another person.
Eventually, 46 people stepped up and took his campaign past its R40,000 goal, raising R44,636 for his medical care.
It’s a good reminder that a single contribution doesn’t have to carry the whole load, it just has to start the momentum. 💜
Drop a 💜 if you love seeing a community show up like this.
Our usual Good News Drop carries five stories. This week, one little girl gets the whole spotlight. 💜
91 donors carried Amor’s campaign beyond its R150,000 goal, and now her family has shared the update everyone was waiting for: her surgery went well.
She is recovering, still sore but trying. Sometimes good news is found in those small, determined steps forward.
Leave a little love for Amor and her family.
