Foliar fungicides boost yield only when disease is present, says @ISUExtension #SoyResearch funded by @IowaSoybeans. Trials provide data for decision tools and reveal the prevalence of fungicide resistance in common diseases. #SoyCheckoff bit.ly/3UIwVi1

The hardest part about soybean grain quality analysis…..finding a place to stash the mountain before you can evaluate it! That’s the “finished” pile!! @T_birdPathology @JMHuoni

Are farmers really using disease predictive models? 🤔 Who's actually using these tools? Agronomists, farmers, or bankers? What's your take?

We test the best corn hybrids in fields all across the state. This provides impartial data to help select hybrids and enhance profit. Thanks to all the growers, eight participating seed companies, and Extension agents who make this happen. 🌽#mscorn #MSUext #mscrops

Wondering if ripping increases soybean yield? Our 2026 data show a 5.5 bu/ac increase from fall ripping compared to no ripping at the 75% confidence level on non-irrigated ground in Starkville. More to come from @MSSOY @MSU_AG @MSUEFieldCrops

On this episode of I See Dead Plants, we're digging into the science of plant disease forecasting and exploring how models can help growers anticipate disease risk before the damage is done! #PlantPathology #PlantDisease #Agriculture #CropProtection #AgPodcast

Mississippi soybean growers still have an opportunity to get free nematode testing. See our lab webpage for requirements to qualify extension.msstate.edu/lawn-a… #MSUext
“Fall soil samples collected after harvest (up to 6 weeks after the R8 growth stage) can be useful to monitor changes in [root-knot nematode] population densities or to make management decisions for the subsequent cropping season. Soil samples should be collected at an 8 to 10-inch (20 to 25-cm) soil depth within the root zone of the previously existing crop.” From the Overview of Root-Knot Nematodes cropprotectionnetwork.org/pu… by @travisfaske @baldpathologist @MartinChilvers1 @PACropDoc @dsmuelle @OnofreLab @ppp_trey @Nemasoil @alabamaED @DTelenko @AlbertTenuta +more @TheSCNCoalition @MahDuffeck @NematodeGuy @UFcropnematodes #USSoy

Fusarium stalk rot causes shredded pith that may be tan to light pink. Brown streaks may be observed on the lower internodes. The fungi overwinter in corn residue, other dead plant residue, and in corn seed. Resistance to Fusarium stalk rot is available. Rotation and tillage will reduce inoculum. @DTelenko @badgercropdoc @MandyBish1 @MartinChilvers1 @maddishires @alisonrISU @TamraJacksonZ @baldpathologist @NationalCorn #corn #harvest26

Working through purple seed stain and grain quality plots this week. Honestly, very little purple seed stain….but have a few plots with a good bit in a large Cercospora leaf blight variety trial @T_birdPathology

Regularly monitor bins for potential issues. If grain becomes wet, use fans to increase airflow and reduce grain moisture levels, preventing fungal growth. If mycotoxin-producing fungi begin to grow in high-moisture corn, mycotoxin level in stored grain can increase. Be sure to wear proper personal protection equipment, if necessary, for examining grain bins. Read more at cropprotectionnetwork.org/pu…. Anthracnose is likely the most prevalent stalk rot in the eastern United States. Affected plants have shredded pith and die prematurely. Anthracnose also causes a distinctive blackening of the stalk rind. The fungus overwinters in corn residue and infects plants through the roots or by spores that splash onto the stalk or are carried by insects that may introduce them into feeding wounds. The disease usually does not appear until late in the season and occurs more severely where corn follows corn, especially in reduced tillage. Resistance to anthracnose is available in some hybrids. If a hybrid is resistant to stalk rot, it is not necessarily resistant to the leaf blight phase. Rotation and tillage will reduce inoculum. @alisonrISU @MartinChilvers1 @badgercropdoc @TamraJacksonZ @alabamaED @MandyBish1 @DTelenko #corn @NationalCorn @maddishires @baldpathologist @travisfaske

Many diseases survive in crop residue like tar spot, northern corn leaf blight, red crown rot, sudden death syndrome, and Fusarium head blight. Knowing the risks for your field can help inform future management decisions, like choosing disease-resistant hybrids or varieties for next season. @alisonrISU @baldpathologist @DTelenko @badgercropdoc @MartinChilvers1 @DylanMangel @BisonBeanDoc #corn #soybean #wheat
