30 years of Super Mario 64 and I genuinely don’t think people who weren’t there can understand just how magical this game felt. Walking into Peach’s Castle for the first time. Hearing the music. Running down those hallways, finding a painting, and realizing you could literally JUMP INTO IT and enter an entirely different world. Every door was a mystery. Every painting was a new adventure. Every star felt like you’d discovered something nobody else had. The first time you flew with the Wing Cap. Racing that stupid penguin down the slide. Swimming through Dire, Dire Docks. Running around Bobomb Battlefield with absolutely no idea what you were supposed to be doing, but somehow having the time of your life. And the music. God, the music. There was no YouTube tutorial telling you where to go. No internet spoiling every secret before you found it. Just you, your N64, and an entire new game to be explored. I think what makes me emotional looking back is realizing we weren’t just experiencing one of the greatest leaps in gaming history. We were experiencing a kind of childhood wonder you can never quite get back. Those mornings sitting on the floor in front of the TV, completely lost in a world that felt so big. I can still hear the castle music and immediately feel like a kid again.
Super Mario 64 was released 30 years ago in North America.

Just a reminder that the "golden age of horror", aka the PS2, was mostly formed by games that flopped in the market (Clock Tower 3, Haunting Ground) or games that received heavy criticism upon release (Rule of Rose, Silent Hill 4), and so on. This hate matter is a vicious cycle.
it’s nice to know the fans never change after 20 years lol

Este fue el cover que vi hoy, me gustó bastante
Am I the only one that feels like this ED is incredibly underrated? The visuals are god tier and the song is peak man. I saw a Spanish cover today on TikTok and realized the lyrics are beautiful as well

You're not fucking funny. You are a joke to be bending the knee to the modern surveillance state. You deserve all this shit.
when you launch an extremely popular age assurance update that everyone on Discord was really looking forward to and it has bugs

Say no to age verification at the operating system level. Say no to age verification at the app store level. Say no to age verification for apps. Say no to age verification for websites. Say no to age verification anywhere online. Age verification is a scam and a con job.

Lmao, funny comparison
Being a computer scientist who refuses to find anything about LLMs interesting right now is a bit like being a geneticist who refuses to find anything interesting about the recently opened Jurassic Park

You don’t fully grasp how much of your life is tracked until you’re sitting in a courtroom, watching federal prosecutors use your digital history against you, down to your most harmless Google searches. Your entire life becomes an open book, and even your most innocent actions can be twisted into something sinister. They get to tell the most damning version of your story. To tell yours in your own words, you have to take the stand.

I wrote a piece in 2022 about how twitter would be fine and it got me so cancelled in the tech sphere that friends from college emailed me to check if I was ok I was right and they were all fucking wrong. I knew tech better than 90% of my colleague and that actually hurt my career
Remember how eagerly the press swallowed stories about how Twitter was going to crash after Elon bought it? How could they have believed that someone who could run rocket and car companies couldn't run a forum?
