Steve Bannon’s recent CBS interview painted a stark picture of what he expects if Democrats take the House — “You’ll see Bobby Kennedy impeached. You’ll see Pete Hegseth impeached. They will look to destroy President Trump, and we’ll be bogged down for the next two years.” He added that losing the House would “turn the White House into Fort Apache.” Bannon placed Trump in rare historical company, comparing him to Washington and Lincoln. “I think he’s at that level,” he said. “General Washington was there at the birth of the nation; Lincoln was the rebirth of the nation; and I absolutely believe that Trump was there for the salvation of the nation.” He also described himself as “the leader of trying to get President Trump to run for a third term,” despite the 22nd Amendment. “I think you could drive a truck through that amendment,” he claimed, saying constitutional lawyers had identified “a number of different alternatives.” On the 2020 election, Bannon was blunt: “The core belief of the MAGA movement is we won the 2020 election.” He insisted they won even after being pressed on the results and the court cases. Elsewhere in the interview, he rejected the idea that the U.S. is drifting toward fascism (“It’s not fascism. It’s actually more inclusionary, it’s more entrepreneurial”) while praising Nazi propagandist Leni Riefenstahl as “one of the most powerful filmmakers ever.” He said he had tried to recreate the power of her films so that ordinary people could “have a voice.” He also distinguished himself from traditional conservatives: “I am right wing; I’m not conservative. I’m a right-winger and proud of it.” The comments come from Bannon’s October 2026 appearance on CBS Sunday Morning.
