Lots of positives for Liverpool today but ultimately Arsenal showed why they're champions. So good defensively. Liverpool's one error at the back cost them. Andoni Iraola's side didn't do enough to test David Raya either.

Liverpool missed a chance to propel themselves into the title race today, but think they were shown why they're not quite there yet. Just couldn't find the goal when they had Arsenal in the washing machine first half then didn't lay a glove on them in the second.

Disappointing result but good performance from Liverpool vs a top side. Arsenal so tough to break down & very wily. Liverpool gave them a goal & then didn’t have enough quality to open them up, especially out wide. A bad day for Barcola, & Wirtz again in a big game. Need a new LB

If you're chasing a game you want constant pressure and a bit of patience to pick your moment. Nyoni went off with a pass success rate of 96% and he completed 75% of his long passes.
Dom had a pass success of 81%, completed 29% of his long passes and zero crosses.

The clearest of those penalty appeals was undoubtedly the shirt pull on Alexander Isak. No idea why VAR Stuart Attwell didn't send Andy Madley to the screen for that one.

"I fell out of love with a lot of the game last season. The booing, Reds arguing with Reds in the stands, the Mo Salah strops, Dom Szoboszlai at City etc. Just horrible. But this campaign has been remarkably light on the heart.
"Having a right back prepared to tackle with his throat if need be, a young striker who chases down defenders like Dirk Kuyt on whizz, and an incoming centre back who might already be the best in the league in his position really does warm the soul."

FT: Liverpool 2 Brighton 0: That’s a massive win for Iraola’s side who climb to fourth in the PL table. Played some great stuff first half with the front three and Wirtz so influential.
Defended brilliantly second half with Araujo absolutely outstanding.
Big step forward.

The most entertaining half of Premier League football at Anfield in a long time. The first time I think you've really seen how exciting Liverpool's new-look attack can be. Brighton not out of this one yet though - they're a really good side. Ronald Araujo's resurgence continues.
