Replying to @allmodelsRwrong
@allmodelsRwrong i wrote up a temp check for a @gitcoin x @breadcoop collab: an artizen-inspired crowdfunding app people can actually trust.
we'd keep the fun parts (up to 4x match, leaderboards, fiat ux) and rebuild what sits underneath:
- match on-chain + visible before a round opens
- match funded only from yield that already accrued
- principal locked in a permanent fund
- no single person can stop payouts
- round rules in the contracts, changeable only for future rounds
thousands of ppl just learned what matching feels like, then what losing it feels like. i'd love to catch them while they're still energized.
you've lived this harder than i have (bread got caught in it too). where's the design wrong, and what would the mvp need for you to trust it with your own community?

Thanks for sharing the proposal and I'm very excited / hopeful that we can build something that can take the best from Artizen while keeping out the failure modes it had.
Some extra thoughts on the proposal on my side:
- one of the main issues with Artizen in the long run was the lack of financial transparency and we can solve this be keeping things onchain
- keeping principal and only paying out yield is a proven method for long term capital accumulation while doing good
- this very much aligns with what we've been building these past years with @breadcoop and we've been able to prove it while giving out over $60k to projects in grants
- giving out the same multiples as what Artizen was giving was just not sustainable so we should be more reaslistic / honest about it by providing financial transparency
- I think there's a lot to learn from the gamification mechanics with points that are worth continuing because it allowed curational voice for people even if they didn't support with funding
As you said, we were also affected by what happened so we are quite motivated to get this right and provide a fundraising mechanism for similar kinds of projects!
two frontiers im pondering as we quietly lay tracks for @gitcoin next chapter
1. syntropic financing
2. consumer adoption
syntropy is the tendency of living systems to organize toward greater order, energy, and complexity over time.
eg a forest doesn't just sustain itself, it gets richer over time. richer (in the context of nature) = more soil, more species, more energy turned into resilience each season.
syntropic financing asks what capital would look like if it behaved the same way. money that leaves every system it touches more alive than it found it, where the returns are measured in the health and growth of the whole.
consumer adoption is how that reaches the world. the primitive only matters if ordinary people touch it through products they'd already choose, no ideology required.
get both right and you have an engine that grows the system and an on-ramp wide enough for everyone to climb aboard.
I think in 2019-2022 @gitcoin was a leader in both. QF is a small glimmer of what syntropic financing can be. and @gitcoin was one of the first consumer dapps ppl used.
I think that in 2027+ it is possible we could do it again at a larger and more holistic scale - tho success is not guaranteed, this is an aspiration and a target, imo we are well positioned to take another shot.

kinda crazy the kinds of gas savings we're finding we can do with @gaskiller_
Exhausting and useless purity testing with no understanding of tactics and political capital or awareness of how vulnerable left-wing politics is within that context. You want Zohran to put an easy target on himself? What's the long term goal? How will it impact the agenda?

We don’t build onchain for fun. We do it because it is better than the systems we use for handling transparency, money and trust.
For those affected by the Artizen situation, I'm happy to share a showcase that I've been working on built on the @breadcoop stack as an alternative to get feedback.
tbsoc.github.io/pastry/
How it works:
- Deposit and get pasUSD, pasEUR or pasETH. You can always redeem them 1:1 for the underlying token
- The yield from those deposits generates matching funds
- 10% of every donation goes into a wealth fund that permanently earns yield, so the matching pool compounds over time
- Curators run funding rounds and choose which projects to include
- Points from donating, inviting others and using the app let you steer each season's yield split between funds and projects
- The core model already works in production with @BreadCoop for over two years. We've given over $60k in funds through our Solidarity Fund.
There are plenty of technical decisions to be made but I first want to validate that this is something people want. We'd be happy to lead the development if people are positive.

The public funding moat is dead.
Solidarity Funding is the next logical step.
@breadcoop has been building for this for years.
Solidarity Funding: We can fund each others projects together.
Stacks: We can save/loan for hard times together.
So sad hearing that @Artizen is shutting down. It was such an inspiring and hopeful community. Of course people are all left with many questions. As @breadcoop we also stand at the frontlines of those attempting to create regenerative change.
Today's news of @Artizen folding is an awful shock. Funding regenerative projects has always been incredibly hard because people who most want to enact change often do not have purchasing power to match.
Quadratic & matching funding met this need, Artizen seemed to show promise but we're back to square one. Projects have been promised their funds back back without any of the matching amounts, and also minus the platform fees.
It's a damn shame, situation still ongoing. If you had a fund on there and a community that you rallied to the cause we need to document it all. @breadcoop @RegenCoordinate @gardens_fund @tdfinyourdreams @crypto4commons
Times might be tough but we must keep on fighting for the future we believe in. It reminds me of the scripture: “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. ”
