Gabby Williams hit a 31 foot three pointer to put the Valkyries up 3 with 2:18 left. It increased their title chances from 54% to 75%. It was the 10th biggest shot in WNBA history, as measured by impact to championship probability (+21%).

If you're a coach, read this now
Joe Mazzulla has been practicing what he preaches at the Boston Celtics… He’s been handing over coaching responsibilities. Giving his assistants opportunities to lead. Giving veteran guard Mike Conley responsibility for managing substitutions. Allowing people to experience decisions, uncertainty and responsibility from a different perspective. I love this. Because coaches often talk about wanting more leadership from their players. Ownership. Accountability. Independence. But here’s my question… What opportunities are you actually giving your players to develop these qualities? Leadership doesn’t magically appear because a coach demands it. Leadership needs to be developed. Through experiences. Through conversations. Through decision-making. Through responsibility. And, importantly, through mistakes. Think about it… When a coach makes every decision, provides every answer, and solves every problem, what are the players learning? Perhaps they’re learning to become dependent. Perhaps they’re learning to wait for instructions. Perhaps they’re learning that leadership belongs to somebody else. Now contrast that with a coach who deliberately creates opportunities for players to think, communicate, collaborate, and make decisions. A coach who asks questions rather than immediately providing answers. A coach who gives players responsibility and then helps them reflect. That’s a coach developing independent competitors. And independence matters enormously in sport. Because when the whistle blows, players must perceive, decide and act. They must respond to changing circumstances. They must communicate and coordinate. They must take control and take charge. So here’s a challenge for coaches… Don’t simply demand leadership. Design opportunities for leadership. Evrty day of every week, and in every training session. Because the best leaders don’t just lead…the best leaders create more leaders. *********************************** There’s a great source here on the work of Coach Mazzulla: buff.ly/Tt9oCJ7

Soderbergh is the best. And he brought @Singani63 to the States 👌👌
Steven Soderbergh helped Christopher Nolan secure distribution for Memento. He also helped Gary Ross by serving as second-unit director on The Hunger Games, filming much of the District 11 riot scene. Yes, that scene had Soderbergh's fingerprints all over it. He's one of the biggest champions of fellow filmmakers in Hollywood. Put some respect on his name.

Kerr: "What I'm seeing is fewer play calls and more flow basketball, more concepts just being executed. And the faster the game, the more difficult it is to get organized. So you have to figure that out without slowing down to call a play." SO important for coaches at all levels

Go DREAM!
The best part of being in sports media is getting to see these athletes grow, achieve more success & reach milestones they’ve dreamed of for some time. So when I asked Dream’s Rhyne Howard about the moment she knew they were going to the WNBA Finals, I got emotional with her.

The teaser trailer for Michael Mann’s reboot “Miami Vice” film in 2006 was an incredible vibe. You had to watch it on Baccardi Rum’s website. “Numb/Encore” by Jay-Z and Linkin Park perfectly synced to action. Colin Farrell’s slicked back hair and insane moustache. Had it all.
the first trailer for Miami Vice 85 with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler better just be the “I Can Feel It In The Air Tonight” scene from the original show

I am skeptical we’ll ever see a sports documentary like Hoop Dreams again. What is classified as a sports doc these days isn’t even in the same universe as Hoop Dreams. It’s all just sanitized legacy maintenance with the subjects granted approval over the final cut.

“Just communicate” is one of the laziest answers we give players on defense. If two players ask what they’re supposed to do and your answer is “figure it out,” there’s a good chance you’re calling a lack of clarity 'freedom.' Players should be solving the offense, not trying to figure out their own defense. New article: lockdowndefense.substack.com…
