The draft “Planner’s Pledge” that @JeffSpeckFAICP added to the end of Walkable City is the most perfect distillation of new urbanism that I’ve ever seen. Read this, commit to it, and join the fight of making our world a better place to live in. #utpol #slc

Reposting again because it's indicative of how the UDOT brain works. Just 200 people commute from Vernal to SLC. For Blanding, the number is effectively 0. UDOT investing in Wasatch Front transit would move THOUSANDS, but they see the state as an expanse of dirt, not as people.
Utah Bustang? UDOT has dropped an RFP for two new intercity bus routes. One between SLC - Blanding and another between SLC - Vernal Both routes would operate 365 days per year

Instead of standing up two inter-city bus routes to rural Utah for a handful of customers, UDOT could snap its fingers and facilitate BRT on State Street, which would fundamentally reshape traffic patterns for 250,000 commuters in the urban core #slc #utpol

Finally catching up to logging this train. It blocked 800 and 900 South for an hour while also lurching forward halfway through to also block 200 South for half an hour. #BuryTheRails

Discount passes are great and by all means, let's get as many people using them as possible. But discount passholders have a *higher* subsidiary per rider than standard passholders. Increasing the number of discount riders would mean LESS net operating revenue for @rideuta #slc
As the Utah Transit Authority proposes a 20% fare increase, a low-income advocacy group is asking the agency to take a step back and consider putting more resources toward increasing enrollment of available discount passes before hiking fares utahnewsdispatch.com/2026/10…

The idea that UTA could spend money promoting discount passes and somehow recoup that investment through increased discount ridership doesn't math.

This is why you gotta dig into the details. Apparently @RideUTA’s long range plan contemplates abandoning high-frequency service to the state Capitol. Those stops don’t do huge numbers, but the symbolic loss of legitimate bus service to the Capitol would be a big step backward.

Bus service to the Capitol would take the form of a new route between Woods Cross Frontrunner and Salt Lake Central. Unclear what the frequency would be but it would at least offer a connection from State Street on 200 South. #slc #utpol

Classic Obama snobbery. Cheesecake Factory is a great option for people who can’t afford a private chef at their Martha’s Vineyard estate.

This train was completely stopped but thanks to the 400 South Viaduct Trail I was able to make it to make it to my medical appointment. #slc

Cheesecake Factory populism is so weird to me because the rise of chain restaurants created over-the-top, replicable dining experiences, which eventually put the final squeeze on mom-and-pop restaurants, such as the US version of trattorias. I would argue those family-owned neighborhood businesses made the dining experience feel more special and pulled communities together. The shift to chain restaurants homogenized American life and concentrated corporate power. Strange to frame corporate consolidation as "populism."

2/ A private citizen's signature on a petition to put a question before voters does not prove anything. What is reasoning for a concluding otherwise?
