The Shining released worldwide 46 years ago this exact day. I wrote at length in December about the spiritual experience I had seeing this in IMAX right before Christmas. Jack Nicholson is my favorite actor ever & this is his most audacious performance. This film lives forever.

June 1998: Filming wrapped on Eyes Wide Shut. Sets would typically be ready the night before shooting a scene to allow Kubrick to rehearse for as long as he felt was necessary before rolling the camera.

Tom Cruise was so adamant about Val Kilmerโs return in Top Gun: Maverick that he refused to make the sequel without him. Cruise told producers, "We have to have Val, we have to have Iceman," insisting their real-life bond was essential for the story.

On 30 July 1966, as England faced West Germany in the World Cup Final, Stanley and crew were filming a long exposure sequence of the Discovery One space station.
The crew were so glued to the match that they insisted on wheeling a TV into the studio. When England scored the winning goal, the entire crew erupted in celebration...so much so that the studio floor visibly shook during takes!

"Top Secret!" (1984) is super silly and funny. This is a classic action comedy parody film by the trio Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker (the team behind Airplane! and The Naked Gun). Val Kilmer plays the lead role โ this is also his film debut.

Stanley Kubrick, left, quit his full-time job as a photographer at Look magazine to direct his 1st feature film, 1953's "Fear and Desire." The result was what he later said was "not a film I remember with any pride." He later directed another self-funded film, 1955 Killer's Kiss.
