Never had one of these in my youth, but I set one up at the @R_I_C_M Learning Lab recently (with a Spectre GCR too), and it's an absolutely amazing machine. I had access to a friend's Mega ST but the Mega STE really ups the game.

Is this the end of vibe-coded game ports between retro computers?
ANTHROPIC IS CRACKING DOWN ON VIDEO GAME REWRITES 🚨
Claude Code picked up a new rule around Oct 27, sent from Anthropic’s servers under a flag called "tengu_heron_brook". There’s no setting to turn it off.
The full rule: “Do build original games, games in a genre, and games from the user’s own designs and assets. Don’t build a recreation of a specific existing game, even if it is renamed or called original.”
Is this the end of game rewrites, modding and everything in between?

Your Atari ST hard-disk game collection has a dirty secret. About two hundred adaptations never ask TOS for a file: they bring their own GEMDOS and read the disk sector by sector, like it's 1991 and nobody is watching.
Why does that matter? The original hard disks are forty years old and dying. GEMDRIVE replaces them with modern storage: a folder on the SidecarTridge Multi-device's microSD card that the ST sees as drive C:, the same idea as Hatari's GEMDOS drive with a folder on your PC. Files by name, no sectors. So those games sat there sulking.
Not anymore. We started all 1,831 hard-disk adaptations on the 8bitchip.info list from a GEMDOS drive. 1,608 run as they are. For 209 more, we rebuilt their start programs to ask for their files by name.
Drop a game's ZIP, exactly as you downloaded it, into the page. It tells you whether the game runs as it is, or patches the ZIP in your browser and hands it back. We host no game files.

Friends, I have been derelict in sharing a valuable piece of life advice. There is likely a Korean restaurant within easy commute of your home or work. There, you can obtain -- at very reasonable cost -- a dish called "bibimbap." I counsel you to do so, regularly, as I do.
And not even as a special night out, mind you: I mean as a weekday lunch, when the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune are becoming particularly frisky and you feel the need to center yourself.
(Break the yolk and mix everything up. Eat with the provided spoon, not chopsticks. Stir in the sauce after sampling it without; if it's spicy sauce, you can add exactly the amount of heat you like, and no more.)

It’s the last #MakerMonday before Halloween and we still don’t have a costume sorted, so instead, we’re going to follow this treat of a tutorial from The Raspberry Pi Guide to Retro Gaming to disguise our Raspberry Pi as the classic 8-bit Apple II computer.

This free game lets you slowly upgrade a scruffy tinkering garage into a professional maker lab.
If you’ve played Overcooked, you know the shape of it. Except instead of a kitchen, you’re running a makerspace.

FLOPPSY Is Back on the Menu 💾
We had a cool floppy reader/emulator project underway. Then we moved, dealt with a tariff mess, and created a new, very cute human. A modest scheduling interruption.
Now we’re back with a nice, hopefully final revision. FLOPPSY is designed to connect to or emulate Shugart PC, Mac, and Apple Disk ][ floppy drives. Yes, we have an Apple index sensor input. We know what you were about to ask.
We added a 2.8" color touchscreen and a USB host connector for some Very Interesting Capabilities. We also whipped up top and bottom plates, and the whole thing is 3.5" floppy-sized. Small enough to look familiar. Considerably more complicated inside. 🔧
Read. Capture. Emulate. There’s plenty of magnetic history worth keeping, and we’re getting back to the hardware that can help.
FLOPPSY is up next ... and so is the next chapter of AdaBox. We’ll be announcing Club AdaBox later this week. 👀

The SidecarTridge Multi-device is now officially Powered by Raspberry Pi.
Which means a board whose entire purpose is to serve 40 year old computers that most people assume are dead has passed review and sits in the same catalogue as proper industrial products. Thanks @Raspberry_Pi for letting me into such a select club. I promise to behave.
And thanks to the Atari community for dragging this thing into corners of the spec nobody sane would visit.
