NYC air quality is currently at 270 —that's in the "Very Unhealthy" range for everyone. Researchers have found that every few hours spent outside at this level is roughly the equivalent of smoking a cigarette. Stay indoors with windows closed. But if your home doesn't have air conditioning, don't tough out the heat. Get to a cool place like a library, a cooling center, or an air-conditioned friend's or neighbor's home. Heat is the more immediate danger, so cooling off comes first. If you must be outside, consider wearing an N95 or KN95 mask— free masks are available at on.nyc.gov/freemask. Please check on neighbors, especially older adults, young children, and anyone with asthma or heart or lung conditions. Days like this hit them hardest. Call 911 right away if you or someone else experiences difficulty breathing, chest pain or tightness, or dizziness that doesn't improve. Live look at the haze over the city ⬇️ @EarthCam
