Ben Maruggi

I would have missed this tournament, but I’m grateful I didn’t. I gave up travelling for Christmas, and @bmaruggi10 sent me some money to ensure I could cover the tournament and scout Lewis Uvwo. Today, my greatest joy is knowing that Lewis Uvwo is proof that every Nigerian kid can achieve their dreams and reach the highest level through hard work, dedication, and the right opportunities. I was the first basketball scout in Africa to use my platform to speak about Lewis when hardly anyone was paying attention and all thanks to @bmaruggi10. Today, seeing him commit to @PCFriarsmbb makes me proud because I believed in his talent before the recognition came. His journey has opened doors for me and demonstrated the quality of my scouting eye. Sometimes, all a talented kid needs is someone who believes in them before the world takes notice. I’m proud I played a part in telling Lewis Uvwo’s story. THE JOURNEY DOESN'T STOP HERE LEWIS, WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST 👍.

Rejected by every top high school in America, and today he’s one of the most talked about athletes in the country. Back in 2023, when I had the chance to scout Lewis Uvwo, I went as far as telling programs I projected him as a future lottery pick in his draft class. I saw the talent, but more importantly, I saw the hunger and commitment to hard work. Today, I don’t need to convince anyone about him anymore. I hear people speak highly of him on their own and that’s what brings real joy to us basketball scouts. 📹 @On3
