Book Dash

ALT Our Annual Report covers the activities and achievements of Book Dash’s 12th year of existence. This year's highlights include: - the distribution of over 6.6 million books since Book Dash’s founding in 2014 - a massive annual partner print run of 675,000 books - the first ever Book Dash book originated in South African Sign Language and 214 Book Dash titles overall now translated into SASL videos. This work changes lives, so thank you for the part you play in supporting us to continue our work. It helps us realise the vision that started it all: ‘Every child should own a hundred books by the age of five.’ View the link in our bio and below https://bit.ly/4zgoAB4 #bookdash #everychild100books #earlybookownership #ECD

ALT “Our goal is to give every child that comes into our department Book Dash books. We encourage literacy in every way.” Nic Engelbrecht, speech therapist, Isilimela Hospital Isilimela Hospital outside Port St. Johns in the rural Eastern Cape has received more than 4,000 Book Dash books for the children who come into its care since becoming a distribution partner in 2021. The rehab department uses books across programmes from speech and occupational therapy to physiotherapy and the paediatric ward, and reports that children feel more comfortable in therapy sessions and gain autonomy when choosing their own books. ALT Book Dash will be hosting a session at @Catalyst Now Week 2026! Join us on Tuesday, 13 October at 13h00 (SAST) In the session we will talk about the Book Dash magic, the power of open license and its potential to bridge the book ownership gap for children living in hard to reach areas. Book Dash has distributed 6.6 million storybooks through more than 450 distribution partners working with children in their earliest years. Together, we believe that children's learning doesn’t start at school, but begins at home, cultivated from as early as birth. Children's picture storybooks are a powerful tool essential for supporting children's development, well-being, learning and school readiness. Don't miss it!
