When the Naxalite unrest shut down his classrooms in 1970, he studied on his own for the board exams. He wrote the exam in Bengali
When he entered Presidency College for his BSc, he had to manually translate scientific terms from Bengali to English during exams.
His name is Ashoke Sen.
One of the greatest Indian physicists alive says he spends 90% of his time stuck with no progress. Not as a young researcher. Even Now. After receiving the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics carrying a $3 million cash reward, three times the amount of a Nobel Prize.
He grew up in Kolkata, the son of a college physics teacher.
Political unrest delayed Calcutta University exams, causing students to lose a full academic year. To avoid losing two more years during his MSc, Sen left Kolkata for @IITKanpur
When it came time to apply abroad for a PhD, he applied to exactly two universities. Not out of strategy. They were the only two he could afford, the ones that didn’t demand an application fee up front.
One was Stony Brook University. He got in.
After research stints at Fermilab and Stanford, he turned down permanent US offers and returned to India in 1988. He chose to work out of a quiet research institute in Prayagraj rather than a flashy global university hub.
In 1994, he proposed a duality in string theory that helped set off a revolution in the field, work that reshaped how physicists understood their own subject.
In 2012, he won the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics.
The next morning, he donated a substantial part of the $3 million prize money, hopped on his bicycle, and rode to his humble office in Prayagraj to resume solving equations.
It amazes me how every great physicist has one thing in common - Simplicity

Imagine you live in India where overwhelming majority of people are hindu and ruled by hindutva and you are worried that Islam supremacy might rule over you.
An irrational fear.
There’s a word for it.
ISLAMOPHOBIA.

Bolsonaro se burla de que Lula “solo tiene nueve dedos”.
Lula le responde que perdió un dedo en un accidente laboral, trabajando, lo que Bolsonaro nunca hizo.
Bolsonaro se disculpa.
Destrozado.
Lula ganó el debate anterior: hoy arrasó y aplastó.

There were two bad men, Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsiram Prajapati.
Both of them would extort money from Marble Mine owners that were operating illegally at the border of Gujarat and Rajasthan.
It is alleged that both were working at the behest of Amit Shah, who was the them Minister of State for Home in Narendra Modi's Government while Narendra Modi was the CM and also held the Home Portfolio.
Sohrabuddin Sheikh, it is alleged, was tasked with doing a murder. The man who was the target was Haren Pandya.
After the murder, when Sohrabuddin Sheikh realized who he has killed, he went missing and disappeared from the radar.
Tulsiram Prajapati was already in jail during that time in Rajasthan.
Gujarat Police used Tulsiram Prajapati to lure Sohrabuddin Sheikh out of hiding.
They arrested him from a moving bus in Andhra Pradesh along with AP police and brought him to Gujarat. Sohrabuddin's wife, Kausar Bi, refused to leave the side of her husband and such that not to create a scene, she too was taken into custody.
Later, Sohrabuddin Sheikh was killed in an 'encounter'.
A subsequent inquiry into the 'encounter' by Gujarat Police itself, terms the encounter fake.
Many policemen were arrested as accused and Amit Shah was named as #1 accused in the case.
The case was moved from Gujarat to Maharashtra and it is in this case that the courts ordered Amit Shah to be externed (Tadipar) from Gujarat.
Amit Shah was arrested and spent a few days in jail before he was bailed out.
It is in this case, that CBI Judge Utpat was about to pronounce a verdict but was transferred overnight by the Bombay High Court, under the Chief Justice Mohit Shah. Later Mohit Shah appointed then Registrar, Judge Loya to the CBI court.
Judge Loya died in mysterious circumstances at a Government Guest House in Nashik, while attending a wedding of the daughter of fellow judge.
The next judge, who was appointed, freed Amit Shah.
Later another judge freed all the other policemen just two days before retirement.
You can read this and more details on how Amit Shah has been running his criminal network in the book, Who Killed Judge Loya, written by Niranjan Takle.
It is available online.

Neha's understanding of the situation, her knowledge of the constitution, her command over the language and her courage are far, far above any youth leader in current India.
She has the ability to think clearly, carries no baggage of a questionable past, her intentions cannot be doubted. Her sincerity to the cause is unmatched.
The future of this country needs leaders like her to grow and take charge.

So much has changed in this country in the last few weeks of protests. Yet one thing remains untouched and unchallenged: the persecution of Muslims by the state.
This is the bitter, heartbreaking truth 200 million Indian Muslims are forced to live with. Every single day.

Instead of the usual serenity during Bijoya, this autumn of 2026, Bengalis witnessed tragic incidents at different places - idols falling, fire breaking out and celebrations turning into moments of shock & grief.
Is this a divine curse?

So can someone explain me the deal with the RG Kar victim's mother?
> She alleged TMC protected her daughter's rapists
> Hence only BJP can give justice so she contested for MLA and won
> Sandip Ghosh got bail - and she herself questioned CBI - wtf does C in CBI stand for??
> Meanwhile she says "my daughter wasn't raped, she was murdered"
> Now she blames the "people" for the administrative failure which killed 20+ people in the Durga Puja pandal.
The audacity and irony of some to talk about politicisation of tragedy!

Under @BJP4Bengal’s Hindutvawadi regime, this year’s Durga Puja descended into utter chaos. The scenes that unfolded during Maa Durga’s immersion at Cooch Behar’s Tufanganj were deeply disturbing. Will CM @SuvenduWB take any accountability for this abject administrative failure?
