An excellent initiative: using upper-air UV light disinfection to reduce hospital-acquired infections and their downstream harms.👇 👏@NSWHealth @VicGovDH
- PRESS RELEASE - Upper Air UV Pilot Project in Canadian Hospitals “Allowing 10% of our patients to get infected is unsustainable,” said Hunt. “The cost is simply too high. Billions of dollars are spent on treatment, and many billions more are lost to the inefficiency of blocked beds.” accessnewswire.com/newsroom/…

Daily N95 wear has been a life-changer for me. Not being sick for 6 years was like getting 14-21 days back per year from a single acute illness. Let’s say 84-126 extra healthy days. It’s incredible when you think about it. Masks on planes =no brainer. Daily public masking? Same.
University of Hong Kong researchers analyzed 40 airplane outbreaks of COVID-19 and flu. Infection risk was highest near infected passengers. Models found N95 masks nearly eliminated transmission, while doubling ventilation alone was insufficient. pubs.acs.org/esthag/article/…

Can I say it again? I am not opposing renewable energy. I do not want coal-fired power stations. I want wind farms put in appropriate places…not in our most biodiverse areas where they will put at risk a large number of endangered species.

When the Oxford children's dictionary discarded dozens of nature-words—"dandelion," "fern," "starling"—as irrelevant to children's imagination and replaced them with words like "broadband" and "cut-and-paste," this inspired act of resistance was born: themarginalian.org/2019/06/1…

YOUR ATTENTION: 🚨Every new COVID-19 (re)infection elevates your cardiovascular risk profile. Even mild cases can raise the odds of a heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and other CV events for months to years afterward. Risk is higher with more severe illness, yes, but it’s certainly not limited to severe disease. Updated vaccination will show some mitigation(infection severity↓) but doesn’t give you a risk-free pass! #AvoidSars2 #AvoidReinfections #UpdateVaccination ➡️Supportive links: 1. JK Rowling has just written a beautiful essay that I will link to below. This paragraph holds no punches: “Large numbers of women who’ve never been poor, who’ve never worked the kind of job where they’d be vulnerable to predatory men and who’ve never needed a r*pe crisis centre have spent the last few years vilifying members of their own sex for fighting to retain their hard-won rights and single-sex spaces, in ways that have shocked and disgusted me. I freely confess that I feel an extra layer of abhorrence for any woman who claims to be a feminist while doing it.”

On this day in 1965, the first edition of The Magic Roundabout was broadcast on BBC1. Using the animation from the French show Le Manège Enchanté, completely new scripts (which bore no resemblance to the originals) were written and narrated by Eric Thompson.

Good morning! On the train to London amongst a chorus of squelchy coughs and nose-blowing. It's so strange that no-one knows about the bad air they're sat in. We really need to improve ventilation on public transport.

Upgrading PPE for staff working on COVID-19 wards cut hospital-acquired infections dramatically When Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge upgraded its face masks for staff working on COVID-19 wards to filtering face piece 3 (FFP3) respirators, it saw a dramatic fall – up to 100% – in hospital-acquired SARS-CoV-2 infections among these staff.

Pure nonsense. This was won by women. Mainly middle-aged women, so maybe you didn't notice them?
