America's adversaries have access to more satellite imagery than ever before. The US should be prepared to fight like everyone is watching.
My latest with Elaine McCusker in the Washington Post wapo.st/4rcMavl
Data centers have become targets in war. From Europe to the Middle East, recent strikes show how these expensive facilities can be vulnerable to cheap aerial threats.

With overhead imagery, my latest w/@bradyafr looks at the implications of PRC and RF tunneling, hardening, and theater-nuclear forces programs.
RF and PRC treat the idea of nuclear warfare seriously. The US should do the same to bolster deterrence.

China has built mockups of American-made fighter jets and air defenses deep in its western desert, satellite imagery from @vantortech shows. One of them imitates an E-767 radar plane, which is flown only by Japan.

Satellite imagery has never been easier to buy, or to fake.
As providers multiply and AI improves, the commercial imagery market will be defined less by who has access and more by who can be trusted.

Smoke rising from the Russian Black Sea port of Taman is visible following overnight Ukrainian drone strikes.
Russian shipping through the nearby Kerch Strait has been halted due to drone attacks since July 10.
New satellite imagery from @vantortech offers a closer look at Russia's Avitek plant, hit last week by a Ukrainian missile as part of Kyiv's growing campaign against the facilities supplying the Russian military.

While demonstrating an impressive surge in combat power currently in the Middle East, the U.S. Navy is too small to maintain a wartime footing for this long without serious ramifications for men & materiel, both now and in the near future.
The not-fully-open-yet-not-quite-closed Strait of Hormuz is showcasing systemic problems that have long plagued the Navy.
Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Daryl Caudle recently told Congress that “providing escort services through a contested strait will…exceed the capacity of the Navy to do that effectively.”
The CNO’s candor is welcome as the sea service seems to make it all work, all the time so it can mask (at least temporarily) deep structural weaknesses.
America’s Navy is too important to national security and national economic interests to let it atrophy so deeply, so quickly.
Russia is building new hardened aircraft shelters at Lipetsk air base, satellite imagery from @vantortech shows.
This kind of construction has been seen in recent years at more than a dozen bases involved in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
