In case you missed it, my full WCUS talk is up on YouTube.
I cover agency workflows for block themes, with a bit of a history lesson explaining why block themes are built the way they are and how that’s affecting agentic coding.

It's very cool how @jetpack uses the Connectors screen in WordPress core. It's saved me while setting up a few sites today.
I would love to see more plugins add this extra bit of UI, and maybe even core let you manage things like application passwords here.

[📰 New Post] I've spent a lot of time talking about the Abilities API this year, but I think we're at an inflection point where it deserves another look. Not to amend it, but to better understand it's importance.

As WordPress explores the admin notifications feature, the team who handles notifications at Woo and WordPress[.]com is offering to help.
I use this notifications system all day and it's really good.

Must-read for today.
I might be in a bubble, but this is the most important work we need in WordPress core right now:

In #woocommerce 11.4, you can have multiple product collections on the same page and they are filterable independently
Starting to really like my ChatGPT Dot. Paired with a few tools, like the WordPress MCP, Spacefast, my notes, GitHub… it’s a pretty productive assistant.
I haven’t anthropomorphized it yet, though.
New Webmasters.FM episode:
I talked with @wpbuilds and @danmaby about building show[.]fm, where AI helps, and why open RSS still matters.

I’ve been casually chatting with my ChatGPT “Dot” over the weekend to finish my half-baked personal RSS reader app.
It’s building entirely in the cloud and deploying to @SpacefastHQ - but I can tell that I’ll need to sit at my computer to nail the final UI polish.
Yup. Or any WordPress site if you have Jetpack.
Wait, you can just connect ChatGPT straight to WordPress.com now? With full agent access to create, update and manage your site?
Had no idea this was possible. @OpenAI @wordpressdotcom

These benchmarks point us in the right direction and I’m grateful @apeatling took the initiative to start running them.
I also want to clarify that current scores are a) not a surprise to the Core AI team and b) not reflective of a problem with MCP or the design of the adapter
AI agents named WordPress as an option for about half the sites they were asked to build, then didn't use it. When asked to make changes to an existing WordPress site, they completed 79% of tasks without the MCP Adapter, and none with it.

Two weeks after launching the WordPress MCP Adapter as a canonical plugin on WordPress .org, the AI Team has been given the green light to make MCP a default part of WordPress.

Heading down to San Diego for the WordPress community meetup in a few - if you're around, let me know!
San Diego! I'll be visiting my old hood to join the WordPress meetup next week and talk about performance for @WooCommerce

Woo isn't just a plugin, it's an ecosystem. As we work on our MCP, we want to make sure plugins that extend core Woo functionality can extend our abilities too.
If you're extending @DevelopWoo, we'd appreciate your feedback on extensible abilities.

Replying to @joshbrown @Cloudflare
At @automattic we invest deeply in security, so your @WordPress doesn't have rough days, our shield was up just like Cloudflare, and even better everything was patched on @WordPressdotcom @Pressable and @WordPressVIP , who didn't have a second of downtime.
The WordPress MCP is getting better each release. At @DevelopWoo, we're building on top of core's open foundation so that one MCP offers all the functionality.
Read the first of a few MCP-related updates coming in WooCommerce 11.3.

Wild times.
Please make sure your stores are running the latest versions of PHP 8.3+ - or make sure you're using a host who is on top of things.
Critical security releases for PHP: store owners are encouraged to update their installations of PHP now.
If you're on Automattic infrastructure (@wordpressdotcom, @WordPressVIP, @Pressable, @wpcloudofficial), you're protected. Otherwise check for updates from your web host.
