SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

I’ve waited ten years for someone to say this about Donald Trump.

When Sir Patrick Stewart was cast as Jean-Luc Picard in 1987, his Royal Shakespeare Company peers warned him that doing American sci-fi television would ruin his classical theater career.
He proceeded to spend the next 40 years bringing Shakespearean gravitas to spaceship bridges and mutant academies, single-handedly forcing Hollywood to take pop culture cinema seriously
RIP Sir Patrick Stewart 🕊️

Liberals say, “Feed the hungry.”
MAGA says, “They should’ve worked harder.”
Liberals say, “Protect the right to vote.”
MAGA says, “Purge the voter rolls.”
Liberals say, “No one should go bankrupt because they got sick.”
MAGA says, “If you can’t afford healthcare, that’s your problem.”
Liberals say, “Let people love who they love and live as they are.”
MAGA says, “God hates the same people we do.”
So don’t come at me with a Bible in one hand and an American flag in the other, pretending that makes you righteous.
Because if your version of Christianity requires cruelty, demands conformity, justifies suffering, and teaches children that some people are less deserving of love, you can keep your heaven.
I was raised to believe that decency matters.
That you feed people when they’re hungry.
That you help people when they’re struggling.
That you stand up for those who cannot defend themselves.
That you speak up even when your voice shakes.
That you leave this world a little better than you found it.
THAT is what liberalism means to me.
Not weakness.
Not entitlement.
Not some radical ideology.
MORAL COURAGE.
The courage to look at a country drowning in division, greed, and manufactured hatred and say:
We can do better.
We MUST do better.
And we have a responsibility to do better.
Because patriotism isn’t measured by how loudly you wave a flag or how often you quote scripture.
It’s measured by how you treat your fellow human beings.
And if compassion makes me a liberal, I’ll wear that label proudly.
So enough with the cruelty.
Enough with the hypocrisy.
Enough with the endless chaos.
We are better than this.
And it’s damn well time we started acting like it.
VOTE.

Conservative media is turning on Trump. One of their own outlets says his second term numbed his supporters into a bubble. And it’s about to pop.
The Washington Examiner is a right-wing outlet. Its writers spent years cataloguing the Democrats’ bubble. Now one of them says Trump’s second term overwhelmed and numbed his own people until nothing registered anymore.
His diagnosis is the part that matters. A movement cut off from the mainstream stops listening to its grown-ups and starts following its edge-lords. I lived through that. The people who said “this looks bad” got run out one at a time.
Nobody at a conservative outlet writes this five days before an election if they think Republicans are winning. I break it all down in today’s show (link in reply).

We are facing a crisis of impunity. That's why we built The Rule of Law Project — to investigate unlawful conduct by federal officials, and work with state and local prosecutors to hold them to account.

It will take decades of decent leadership to unfuck what conservatives have done to the country.
Things will never be the same.

Trump is going to claim the Democrats rigged the midterm elections. When that happens remind his stupid supporters that if Democrats were actually rigging elections Trump wouldn't be president right now, he'd be in goddamn prison

I’LL SAY IT AGAIN:
If your job requires a college degree, you should be able to write off your student loan payments as a business expense the way CEOs write off their private jets and yachts for their jobs which require neither.
