We appreciate that some will think officers should enforce the law we put in… but we couldn’t be arsed because they’re not on the right and we can’t possibly upset the wokies. 🚮
Replying to @metpoliceuk
We appreciate that some will think officers should have taken more robust action against protesters wearing face coverings.
During the march earlier, officers engaged with a large number of protesters to inform them of an order in place under Section 60AA of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act requiring them to remove face coverings. These were removed in response to warnings by officers.
This ensured officers were best able to manage the demonstration on the ground.
During the student march, officers made one arrest under Section 60AA for failing to remove a face covering when required by an officer.
Over the course of the day, we have made 11 arrests across the various demonstrations, including the Section 60AA arrest.
This includes five who were arrested for inciting racial hatred and breaching protest conditions at the demonstration outside the Board of Deputies, and five who were arrested for breaching conditions during the student march.
Officers remain on the ground this afternoon to support the Board of Deputies vigil in Richmond Terrace. We will take a zero-tolerance approach to any hate crime offences directed towards the vigil.
Ohhhh he’s about to plummet 😂😂😂

Man jailed after throwing a plastic bottle and swearing at police during protests in Portsmouth
Del Somerville, 42, has been jailed for two years at Portsmouth Crown Court after pleading guilty to violent disorder after throwing a plastic bottle and swearing at police during an anti-migrant protest in Portsmouth, Hampshire, on September 6.
Not sure what’s happened this summer but it’s all gone terribly wrong. ST prices, Kit is the wrong colour, Digital ticket shambles, cup pricing even the changes of beers / lack of stock in Kiosks on match days! Shambles from top to bottom. #PUSB
Soft bunch of players. Nobody gets stuck in, nobody takes one for the team and swipes someone when they’re getting in a dangerous position. Really worrying lack of desire
Bentley is fucking shit. How’s he getting in as number 2 over Wilson? Pinnock looks about 50.. Latibeaudiere is terrible at Champ level let alone above. And then bringing on Bidwell!? What is going on 🤯🤯 #PUSB

No, I’m sorry, you don’t get to play the race card.
We don’t tolerate frauds in high places in this county, even if they are white men with short hair - which is why we still constantly remind you of how you falsified evidence to start a war two decades ago.
I never met Jason Arday, and know nothing about him beyond what I have read, seen and heard in the media.
As the debate around him raged in recent weeks, I stayed out of it, precisely because it struck me as one of those occasional frenzies in which facts get lost and humans cease to be treated as humans. I now wish I had reached out to him, tried to encourage him that “this too shall pass.”
Many people today, those who knew him above all but also many like me who didn’t, will be feeling sadness and anger that this has all led to his death, a family suddenly without a father, parents without a son. None of us will ever know exactly what was going through his mind, but it is hard to disagree with @MayorofLondon that Jason Arday faced “an unacceptable public hounding and campaign of abuse … pernicious public shaming that other people in his position wouldn’t have faced.”
Whatever the truth of the allegations against him, would he have suffered such a hounding had he been white, with short hair? I doubt it. The zeal with which the Trumpian anti-DEI brigade in the U.K. leapt on this story to try to push back the wheel of progress towards genuine equality was horrible.
Again, Sadiq is right to say “His death was a tragedy but it should be a wake-up call for all of us.”
RIP Jason. And to all of us, if ever you think someone you know may have cause to be suicidal, reach out to them.

Jason Arday’s death is tragic. But please spare us the sanctimonious complaints that he was merely an ‘obscure’ academic who was the victim of a racist witch-hunt. The probing and questioning and exposure were entirely legitimate.
Arday was plainly guilty of plagiarism. He had also made a series of fantastical claims about his life and career. He ended up being appointed as a professor at one of the world’s most august seats of learning – where his students, who had worked extremely hard to get there, were paying large fees for the privilege of being taught by him.
Far from being obscure, Arday had happily engaged with the media over many years, often repeating his false claims. He appeared on numerous TV shows and guest edited Radio 4’s flagship Today programme. He even carried the Olympic torch.
Moreover, he had secured a major publishing deal for his autobiography, which was set to be released in Britain and the US just as the scandal broke. By no measure was this man ‘obscure’.
When a fellow academic in Plymouth began to question his credentials, Arday (or someone close to him) made a complaint to the police. When a journalist from Times Higher Education started investigating, he was subjected to a police inquiry and also received a threatening letter from the leading libel solicitors, Carter Ruck.
Arday and those around him were clearly not averse to hounding others when they felt like it.
It’s very possible that Arday did not have sufficient support measures in place when he was finally exposed – but that’s on others. The investigation and questions amounted to legitimate journalistic inquiry.
This was never just about Arday’s fabulism. It was also about the increasingly controversial philosophy of DEI, the obsession of our political, corporate and educational institutions with pushing that philosophy, and how it might have led to someone with Arday’s subpar credentials being appointed in the first place.
These are all valid questions to ask – and, by asking them, journalists are simply doing their jobs.

Jason Arday is literally one of the most selfish people to ever exist
Rather than simply own up to his lies, he cruelly widowed his wife and abandoned his two children in a final act of pure selfishness designed to make himself look like a martyr
It's really crazy that people see anything sympathetic in him whatsoever
All the grifters who enabled him at the University of Cambridge need to be investigated
