Congratulations to the Broward County Property Appraiser’s Deed Fraud Task Force on being named Task Force of the Year! Recognized by the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI) Florida Chapter, this multi-agency task force is making a significant impact in the fight against deed fraud. Since 2022, the task force has investigated nearly 800 cases, made 66 arrests, achieved a 100% conviction rate in adjudicated cases and recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars for victims. But their work goes beyond the numbers. From protecting vulnerable residents to recovering stolen homes, these investigators are helping safeguard one of people’s most valuable assets. We are proud to recognize BSO Detectives Joseph Sommovigo, Christopher Bradley, Scott Schaefer and James “Rob” Feick for their dedication and contributions to this important mission. Congratulations to the entire task force and our law enforcement partners on this well-deserved honor! @MartyKiarBCPA

When someone is in crisis, the right response can make all the difference. The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) Department of Community Programs has launched a pilot Remote Clinician Co-Responder Program. This new initiative connects certified Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) deputies and firefighter/paramedics with an on-call behavioral health clinician via a secure tablet to collaborate during an active encounter. Together, they can assess the situation and identify appropriate care, including crisis stabilization, voluntary treatment, community-based support and more. The program brings clinical expertise into the response when it’s needed, helping people experiencing behavioral health or substance use crises get compassionate care while keeping everyone safe. The right response. At the right time. With the right level of care. For more information, visit sheriff.org.

Coming together is a beginning. Staying together is progress. Working together is success. This week, we recognized nonprofit organizations whose dedication and services make a meaningful difference in the lives of Broward County residents. Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office are proud to support these community partners through BSO’s Law Enforcement Trust Fund (LETF) grant program. These grants invest in the organizations that help meet local needs and strengthen our community. Together, we’re building a safer, stronger Broward. For more information, click here vist.ly/5ky75

SHERIFF DR. GREGORY TONY SUSPENDS ALL NEGOTIATIONS WITH COUNTY OVER BUDGET The Broward Sheriff’s Office has a duty to protect the people of Broward County, support the effective operation of county government, and safeguard the integrity of its work. As the Florida Office of Statewide Prosecution proceeds with an investigation of members of the Broward County Commission and county government, it would not be prudent for me or members of my staff to engage in discretionary budget negotiations with the Commission while that investigation remains active. As the Statewide Prosecutor’s case continues, I will not comment on or discuss investigative details. The Statewide Prosecutor must be able to conduct this work, and every person is entitled to due process. This decision is to protect the people of Broward County from unnecessary disruption, uncertainty, or questions about whether budget discussions could be influenced by the investigation. It is not a judgment about the investigation’s outcome. BSO will continue to meet its legal responsibilities in the budget process, provide information required by law, and protect the delivery of essential public-safety services throughout Broward County. Any required budget matters should proceed through formal, transparent channels so that county services, employees, and residents are not adversely affected. The people of Broward County deserve stable government, responsible stewardship of public resources, fairness, and accountability. No public office is above scrutiny, and no one should use public resources or official negotiations to shield anyone from legitimate examination. BSO will respect the investigative process, continue serving Broward County’s communities, and work to ensure that county government remains focused on the safety, security, and well-being of its residents.

Since 2019, Broward County has experienced a significant decrease in crime. In areas served by the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), overall Part One crime has decreased by 23%, with violent crime down 18% and property crime down 24%. These numbers reflect meaningful progress in our public safety efforts. Behind every statistic is an individual, a family or a business, and every reduction in crime means fewer people experiencing the financial, emotional and personal impact of being victimized.
