The U.S. flag accompanies the fallen throughout military funerals at Arlington National Cemetery. The flag covers the casket of the fallen as it is transported to the gravesite, it is carefully folded, and then it is presented to the loved one of the fallen. Once presented, the flag continues to serve as a symbol of the respect we show for our fallen heroes.
This flag no longer waves, but it remains a visual testament of a service member's service and sacrifice. πΊπΈ

Meet Darin Truex, who served 14 years in the U.S. Army. Originally headed to college on a baseball and academic scholarship, life took a sharp turn when school didnβt work out and his mom gave him five days to figure it outβfive days later, he was on a plane to basic training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Darin went on to serve in Desert Storm and deployed to Iraq three more times, including as part of Alpha Company, 3-35 Armor, 1st Armored Division, the first unit to make contact in Iraq during the Gulf War. He fought in the largest tank battle in historyβMedina Ridge, where his unit endured 96 hours of nonstop combat and even faced chemical weapons exposure, which prevents him from donating blood to this day. Despite the hardships, Darin says the Army gave him structure, lifelong friendships, and a second family. His message to young people considering service: βIf you do it, give it everything youβve got.β Dari , serving meant signing a check with his lifeβready to pay the ultimate sacrifice to protect others.

Micah, congratulations once again on completing the 50 Yard Challenge! What youβve accomplished is something you should hold onto and be proud of for the rest of your life. Itβs no small task to commit to serving others the way you have, and through your dedication, youβve made a lasting difference in your community. Each lawn you mowed wasnβt just grass being cutβit was a message of hope, care, and compassion for the people who needed it most. All the families and individuals youβve helped may never be able to fully express the depth of their gratitude, but know that youβve touched lives in ways that go beyond words. Carry this with you always: βA single act of service may seem small in the moment, but its impact can echo through generations.β

Every September, I take a moment to pay tribute to 1stLt Mike Johnson, a Marine I had the privilege of serving alongside, who lost his life in the Battle of Ganjgal in Afghanistan on September 8, 2009. The events of that battle also led to Dakota Meyer receiving the Medal of Honor.
He was part of my platoon during The Basic School - Fox Company in 2007. Never could I have imagined that just a few years later, my classmates would make the ultimate sacrifice.
The spirit of a hero lives on as long as their name is remembered. By continuing to honor them, we ensure their legacy remains everlasting.
Rest in peace, hero. πͺππΌποΈ

A Korean War veteran from Norfolk has finally been honored for his valor and sacrifice, more than 70 years later. A ceremony was held for William Yarbrough, who was presented with the medals he earned on the battlefield but never received. "Too often, in the speed of service, ceremonies can sometimes be missed, but no act of valor should go unnoticed," officials said at the ceremony. π«‘
