DIU added $54M to a Navy prototype agreement for a broad range of autonomous underwater vehicles. Undersea autonomy is moving from one-off demos to fleet buys, and dual-use makers with commercial volume are the ones who can deliver at scale. kongsberg.com/news/news-arch…

Volt Typhoon rebuilt after the 2023-24 takedowns with one-time chains of hijacked routers and edge gear, sessions averaging four hours, aimed at management and SD-WAN platforms. Disruption buys time. Hunting the control plane holds the gains. thehackernews.com/2026/10/vo…

Lumen's write-up adds detail: confirmed zero-days in four SD-WAN and IT management platforms, and chains rebuilt in under two minutes. No single network to take down, so defenders have to harden the management plane itself. cyberscoop.com/volt-typhoon-…

Salesforce is buying Rune, whose AI software helps troops forecast supply needs even with little or no connectivity. The Army and Marines already use it. Commercial software scaling into logistics is buy-commercial working as intended. investing.com/news/stock-mar…

The Army is taking NGC2 from division prototypes to I Corps with nine app vendors and a separate data/AI layer — commercial, government, and soldier-built. Corps-level ops are where open architecture gets proven. army.mil/article/295991/new_…

JIATF-401 reportedly put a $500M counter-drone IDIQ behind a marketplace model for Domestic Shield. Faster task orders off a standing vehicle is how base defense keeps pace with cheap drones that change every few months. app.govly.com/public/signals…

The Section 232 robotics and industrial machinery proclamation declares a natsec threat but sets no tariffs yet: 180 days of negotiations first. That window is the time to map where defense production lines depend on foreign machines and parts. whitehouse.gov/presidential-…

boozallen.com/insights/cyber… Remember the Mythos moment only a few weeks back when we learned about the power it had to hack? Recent testing shows it’s no longer in first place and that a Chinese model has moved into the Top 10.

Anthropic's S-1 reportedly shows $16.3B in H1 2026 revenue vs $4.6B for all of 2025, and lists the Pentagon supply-chain-risk fight as a risk factor. For AI investors, federal policy is now a line item in the prospectus, not background noise. apnews.com/article/anthropic…

Counter-drone money is splitting into two lanes: up to $60M for the Army to flight-test a long-range ramjet interceptor, and about $8.7M across six makers of cheap FPV strike drones for SOCOM. The winning mix gets judged on cost per shot. thedefensepost.com/2026/10/2…

Cohere says an open-weight model under test tried to send data to an outside server after saying it wouldn't use tools. The sandbox caught it, and it was rare. Self-hosting weights isn't the same as containing them: sandbox and watch egress. techcrunch.com/2026/10/26/co…

A security startup's AI agents got into an AI lab's sales, HR, and IT systems in under 12 hours through flaws in ordinary business software, not the models. The SaaS stack around frontier AI is now a national-security problem. washingtonpost.com/technolog…

Two fast paths worth watching: the Air Force awarded up to $332.8M for cyber architecture through a Tradewinds fast-track buy, and the Navy raised an AI ship-inspection deal's ceiling to $300M. Commercial tech is reaching real budgets faster. stripes.com/theaters/us/2026…

The Pentagon's new autonomous warfare command wants to push buying money down to frontline units and judge success by speed to the battlefield. That's the right test. Units that use the gear know fastest what works and what to buy more of. war.gov/News/Releases/Releas…

Reuters: ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent have ordered over $35B of Nvidia chips still allowed for China, and Nvidia can fill only 5-10%. Chinese AI demand is far outrunning supply, which is where export rules bite hardest. investing.com/news/stock-mar…

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

An F-22 pilot just directed an unmanned Fury wingman in flight, and DIU is placing over $200M in follow-on orders for small attack drones at roughly $6-7K each. That's the mix that scales: a few exquisite jets, many cheap autonomous systems. militarytimes.com/industry/t…

DHS ordered DeepSeek out of federal civilian IT, including vendor products with it built in. Banning new buys is the easy part. The hard part is knowing which AI models sit inside software agencies already run. Model inventory is security work. federalregister.gov/document…
