IGAD, in collaboration with Djiboutiโs Ministry of Health and partners have launched national consultations under the regional #PREPARE Initiative to strengthen pandemic preparedness and response.
In his opening remarks, Amb. Mousa @Meigague , Director of IGADโs Health and Social Development Division, emphasized the importance of translating regional commitments into actionable national priorities, noting that preparedness requires strong systems for early detection, timely response and coordinated action across borders.
The consultations focus on translating approved activities into a costed national workplan, prioritizing disease surveillance, laboratory systems, health workforce capacity and cross-border coordination, guided by the One Health approach.
Supported by the @Pandemic_Fund, the initiative seeks to strengthen national capacities while advancing regional health security and resilience.

With over 60% of emerging infectious diseases originating in animals, IGAD and @ASLM_News trained the first cohort of animal health laboratory auditors using #QualiPATH to strengthen lab quality, advance ISO accreditation and enhance early detection of zoonotic threats.
Participants from Ethiopia, Kenya, Burundi, DR Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Zambia and Sรฃo Tomรฉ & Prรญncipe combined theory and examinations with practical mock audits at Kenyaโs Kabete Veterinary Laboratory.
Developed by @ASLM_News, #QualiPATH offers a standardized, stepwise approach to assessing animal health laboratories and guiding them towards international accreditation.
