It’s cross-country season in Central Washington.
Son is running in the Gorge Amphitheater today.
Beautiful place for a meet.
First race of my “masters” career and set a PR by over 11 mins.
It’s easy to compare myself to other runners on here and say “I’m not that fast”
But I worked for this so I’m going to be proud of it.
Shoutout to my coach @theryandreyer who got me tuned up, Appreciate you a ton!
Spent the weekend on Mt Hood.
Climbed up about as far as we could go in just regular hiking gear.
Weather broke perfectly after a fresh dusting of snow, such a beautiful spot!
Topping out ceremony for the project I am on yesterday.
I’ve seen this before but never been apart of one.
The Christmas tree on top is the oldest tradition in construction.
Goes back thousands of years… when the needles fell the structure was cured and ready to enclose.
Got the opportunity to hit Mt Cashmere over the weekend with some coworkers.
18 miles and 6500’ of climbing. Some rock scrambling at the top and dodging some rock falls.
Was a great way to cap the season. Snowed a foot on the peak the next night, perfectly timed.

The Tribal 200 is the coolest race I’ve heard about in a while!
Great idea @theryandreyer
PR’d the marathon last night

Had a real rager of a 40th!
Bonfire on the Oregon Coast with my hot wife and amazing children.
I am a blessed man.

Run a marathon at midnight
Do it as fast as possible
Have one of your best buds pace you on a bike and throw food and water at you
Make sure it’s in the country so you can see meteor showers and stars
It doesn’t even matter if you’re training for a marathon
Because you’re on a team where people count on you and push you towards being a better version of yourself
Be ready
Make magic happen
That’s how sports help you live the good life

Currently PM on a $200M utility service center project.
Topping out ceremony with the owner today to set the last piece of steel, canceled because of wildfire smoke.
Meanwhile the Ironworkers are working outside all day, smoking cigs on break.
The men building America.
Perfect day for some trail running.
Life changes as my family gets older. I used to get out all the time and now I’m squeezing in smaller runs in between baseball tournaments and kids’ activities.
But staying consistent so when the window opens I can make the most of it.
Single track for days.
Love me some spring trail running in the Cascade Foothills.
Most athletic part of my run was leaping over a snake as I was booking it down the switchbacks.
Probably just a bull snake, but still got my blood pumping.
If you’re a man in the state of Washington, you should be at The Gorge Amphitheater this Father’s Day.
Calling all Jesus-loving patriots. Join us for this historic event, the largest gathering of Christian Men in the country on the year of our 250th anniversary.
Stronger Man Nation presents, FREEDOM CON: Rise of the Statesman…An American Congress of Christian Men.
We’ll see you there.
At The Gorge Amphitheater.
Father’s Day Weekend.
Reformation starts now.
Everyone in business wants me to go golfing for team building and networking.
Nobody wants to go with me on 4 hr trail runs.
Shame, you really get to know someone scrambling up a mountain for several hours.
At dinner asking my kids about their days and sports practice.
Son: “it was fine”
Daughter: “here’s a 30 page slide deck presentation detailing every single drill we did complete with commentary on how I felt, what my friends said and how my coaches reacted”
Boys vs girls…

The internet tells you to quit the job.
Escape the commute and build the life you actually want.
But I've watched that narrative quietly destroy people's relationship with their health.
They're waiting for the freedom to take fitness seriously.
- In a few months when things "slow down".
- Once the big deal closes.
- The day the schedule finally opens up.
My friend @builder_brando stopped waiting.
W-2 job. 2-hour daily commute. Four kids.
Last fall he averaged 5-6 hours of training per week. Nothing heroic.
Two short runs, a ride, a lift, and a rest day.
He ran a 50-mile ultra in January.
Not despite his schedule. Inside it.
The dads I coach who train the best aren't the ones with the most time.
They're the ones who stopped treating their constraints as a reason to wait - and started treating them as the conditions they build inside of.
The shift from waiting to take action doesn't just change how you train.
It changes how you lead your family.
It’s getting warm out.
That means it’s almost Enchantments Season.
Can’t wait to get back on this trail.
Spring has sprung.
I firmly believe that any season is trail running season but spring is definitely my favorite season for it.
Glad I didn’t sit on my ass all winter. I absolutely tore it up today and it felt amazing.
I got into endurance sports late. I love them. But with my current family and professional demands keep me from training as much as I’d like.
In this season of life it just doesn’t fit as a top priority.
But I’ve used 6 hrs a week to have a lot of fun and build a base that’s served me well.
And when my kids grow and priorities change, I can invest more time and chase some new goals, without building from scratch.
I’ve coached 200+ dads to 70.3 finish lines.
Most of them trained 5 hours per week for their first race.
Everyone assumes endurance requires 15+ hour training weeks.
But what about the guy with 3 kids, a demanding job, a full life?
They want to sign up.
But they wait. Until the kids are older. Until work slows down.
Meanwhile, the window keeps closing.
I’ve found success with a different approach:
“How little can we do and still make this race a success?”
The formula:
Repeatable weeks + schedule flexibility + knowing what to prioritize
= compounding fitness AND confidence
5 focused hours a week for 8 straight weeks beats swinging between hero weeks and zero weeks for 6 months.
Suddenly it’s a very different problem to solve.
And it’s not just for beginners.
My longest-tenured athlete has 4 kids and averages 6 hours a week.
He’s done Ironman, fast 70.3s, ultras up to 100k.
He started a new job in the fall and just ran a 50-mile ultra.
Common endurance logic has one flaw.
It assumes the only path to the finish line is more time.
Most athletes don’t need more time. They need a better system.
That’s a much simpler problem to solve.
The 5-Hour Athlete launches today.
