Anyone remember that old Lunar Lander game from the 1970's ? Same thing here but now you have to land your Tesla Roadster in your driveway. burhop.github.io/games/roads…

If you're a founder picking what to build next, here's the Winter 2027 wish list from @ycombinator. 11 Requests for Startups, all about bringing AI into the real economy: 1. Startups in a World of Abundant Space Access (@agupta): business models that work once launch costs fall 100x or more 2. The $15 an Hour Expert (@bradflora): AI that turns an ordinary worker into an expert 3. Robots Made in America (@sdianahu): robots and their supply chain, built in the US 4. LLMs That Write Well (@snowmaker): a model people love talking to 5. Plaid for Government Benefits (@gustaf): verify income and residency once, apply everywhere 6. Wall Street for the Physical Buildout (@bradflora): lenders, leasing, securitization and hedges for robots and GPU clusters 7. Vertical Foundation Models (@sdianahu): specialized models that match general ones on far less compute 8. AI for City Hall (@gustaf): permits, 311, licensing and inspections, handled with AI 9. Data Center Supply Chain (@snowmaker): the bottlenecks behind the buildout, from transformers to steel 10. AI for the Air Gapped Economy (@bradflora): frontier AI running fully offline, inside the customer's own building 11. Own Your Intelligence (@xuster): companies owning models that improve on their own data Every great buildout created giant financial companies alongside it. YC is betting this one will too.

I don't know who this guy is but look at those leaves!
My thanks for all the kind birthday wishes! Livin' the highlife on the HiLine In Manhattan!

That was a joke. For my birthday, my kids sent me a recording from @BrentSpiner which was crazy funny! I still need to pull out him saying "Mark Burhop?" so I can play it when someone says my name.

This is in my backyard. I really need to go. Do they charge for speakers or is that my way in?

Is it a joke, or is the LLM saying "Stop the jokes. I know where you live."
Ngl that’s the best answer I’ve seen from an LLM so far.

Every time AI uses "sed", I get a tear.🥲 I still remember learning sed on my first Unix machine.

Which non-CAD program do you use every day that you’re certain won’t be replaced by AI in the next year?

AI BIM! I guess AI CAD was too easy 😁
Introducing NativeBIM featureboard.ai/nativebim/ from the makers of NativeCAD Full BIM and MEP in an MCP with generative functionality. Drawings to models and back and forth. Design to building codes and requirements from the start. Certify, render, and analyze existing drawings. IFC in and IFC out. Combine CAD and BIM into one scene by using both NativeCAD and NativeBIM together. One $200 yearly seat license covers both products. Hand this all off to certified engineers before you do anything. There's disclaimers on the website regarding that sort of thing. Great work by Cody DeHaan and the rest of the FeatureBoard.ai team.

Leather working is back!
Lots of people are saying this. Please checkout leatherpatternmaker.com lol yes…I make airplane noises when I’m in CAD and if you don’t you’re dead inside

One of the reasons I'm talking more about hardware on my Substack.
We are about to test it. Can't wait to make this IRL. Should start printing today

With AI accelerating design and removing obstacles, many of us are getting back to our hardware roots. The impact on small manufactures will be significant. Here's my latest essay : burhop.substack.com/p/what-w…

Sunday morning is essay writing day. I find the exercise good for thinking about the last few weeks of change and projecting forward to where design, engineering, and manufacturing are going. As a former product manager, I used to do this once a year.

I often call software developers “coders”. I got this on Reddit.

Gonna take a coffee break and catch up on email after that rush of token burning. Coding in 2026 is stressful! 😂

I'm a car guy, but getting too old to slide under with a dolly. In anticipation of further aging, can you robot builders do something like this that can assemble my rPi and Arduino projects? 🤖
My workbench was getting a little out of control, so I put MARS to work. Turns out having a robot around is pretty useful. Teleoperating MARS from @innate_bot to clean up some of the electronics from my latest projects.

Meanwhile competitors are outlawing AI accessing their API because it is supposed to be "one seat per human, darnit!"
What happens when AI agents work together simultaneously inside Autodesk Fusion? We've been testing orchestration of multiple ChatGPT agents to explore new ways of coordinating your workflows across design and manufacturing. Here's a look at the experiment in action. 👇

GEN CAD CHALLENGE! Can you AI CAD tool do this? How does it handle windshields? This a320 neo was designed entirely inside of NativeCAD from prompts without human intervention into the model. featureboard.ai/nativecad/we… Hit main menu in the top left to fly the resulting plane with a full working flight sim level cockpit.

Speaking of words that no longer mean what they used to mean: It used to be engineers created and drove highly powerful and dangerous machinery. Now, engineers are people that give prompts to LLMs and get mad about being confused with other people that give prompts to LLMs.
