Meanwhile, Albanese is cosying up to Brussels with a new trade deal and security partnership. I cannot say I trust the EU's political direction, and would prefer Australia doesn't follow it. And that shiny 'Global Citizen' award only adds to the optics. 🤦‍♂️
🚨JUST IN: 🇵🇱 POLAND’S GRZEGORZ BRAUN TELLS THE CROWD OUTSIDE THE CONSTITUTIONAL TRIBUNAL THAT TUSK’S POLICE JUST TOOK THE COURT BY FORCE — AND THAT THE ONLY WAY OUT IS TO LEAVE THE EU Poland is a Slavic EU and NATO country. On the night of 30 October in Warsaw, Grzegorz Braun, leader of the Confederation of the Polish Crown, stood under a Gazeta Polska banner and spoke to protesters after riot police under Prime Minister Donald Tusk entered and secured the Constitutional Tribunal. His statement that day said the government is forcing its political will with police, ignoring the legal order, and that it recalls the May 1926 coup. He named Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek as the one who ordered the entry, almost certainly on Tusk’s instruction. He warned that Poland will now have two competing tribunals depending on which side you are on. His solution in the statement: leave the EU so foreign court rulings stop being used to break the system, and pull the police out of political operations. This is the same court whose doors were chained earlier and whose gate people later cut with a grinder. President Karol Nawrocki turned his plane around and is flying back from Senegal because of it.

Worth remembering that futures traders were heavily short euro (at record levels) last week heading into ECB. Not sure we're in for a particularly hawkish ECB - but EUR/USD is trying to hold above support for now.

Nice curve-ball there from RBNZ - holding rates at 2.75% at a meeting where a 25bp was fully priced in. Kiwi dollar lower across the board, rates repricing pushes next hike back to May.

While the RBA don't meet until next week. CPI figures in the next 2hrs effectively a confirmation of a hike if the data lands hot enough. Which it probably will. RBNZ, BOC and Fed all up next. AUD, NZD, CAD: Commodity FX Faces a 24-Hour Central Bank Storm forex.com/en-us/news-and-ana…

Australia's Q3 CPI lands tomorrow, and it could make or break expectations for another RBA hike in November. CBA, NAB and ANZ forecast trimmed mean inflation of 1% q/q, with Westpac slightly lower at 0.9%. Both exceed the RBA's estimated August baseline of 0.8%, reinforcing concerns that inflation is proving more persistent than anticipated. With markets pricing around a 62% chance of a November hike, there's plenty of scope for repricing in either direction. I still like NZD/CAD for its longer-term, bullish inflection point potential. RBNZ and BOC meetings this week. I still think RBNZ may have the hawkish edge - and if oil prices do pull back, it's another bullish clue for the cross.
NZD/CAD is not my go-to. But given it can move 300-400 pips and is sitting at range lows ahead of RBNZ and BOC meetings next week - it has caught my attention. NZD/CAD Ponders Swing Low Ahead of BoC, RBNZ as Hike Bets Firm forex.com/en-us/news-and-ana…

Slightly more hawkish cash rate curve compared to Friday, following RBA Hunter's comments on Sunday
60-minutes: Has the RBA done enough after 4 hikes? RBA Hunter: "Unfortunately, not quite yet." Another hawkish signal from the RBA, despite rising unemployment and weakening business sentiment. All eyes now turn to Wednesday's Q3 CPI, which could tip the balance towards a fifth hike in November.
