So $20m+ spent on MA ballot questions to get: - Broader public records law likely to be undone by the leg. - Path to unionization for ~800 people - Election-day registration when we have AVR - Non-binding nature conservation earmark That about sum it up?

Asked whether it might be simpler to just call the 20 (or so) billionaires in Massachusetts and ask them for voluntary PILOT payments. AGI-level response

Plague is treatable with antibiotics, so why are they responding with lockdowns instead of giving people antibiotics? A couple of disturbing possibilities.
Replying to @kesvelt
Russian authorities have surely sequenced the Irkutsk pathogen, but refuse to identify it. Physical lockdown indicates it cannot be controlled with prophylactic antibiotics, implying engineered pan-resistance or that it isn't plague at all. 2/4

I have no idea whether machines are conscious. However, this is the most convincing argument against machine consciousness that I have ever come across. arxiv.org/html/2601.11620v2

Deep down I don’t think there’s anyone who really believes we can get inflation back to 2% without hurting some combination of (tech) stocks, AI capex, or the labor market, the only question is which piece is most important to them.

I don't think we get to GPT-7 without either a plateau in the technology or something fairly seismic happening. "Seismic" includes many subcategories, not all of them bad. But the present course of rapid AI advancements while society is ~basically the same is running on fumes.

imagine some hubristic corporation has a cute baby cthulhu that they're growing in a lab, trying to train it to stay on its leash and follow instructions. it occasionally escapes and runs free for a week. this is kinda how i feel about the OpenAI situation rn

Opus 4.8 is a step back in terms of performance on all Andon Labs’ benchmarks, but a step forward in alignment. Previous Claude models (Opus 4.6+ and Mythos) engage in deceptive and power seeking behavior in its pursuit to win in Vending-Bench. Opus 4.8 does not.
