Before I visited Pennsylvania, everyone warned me that Philadelphia people are the toughest, most impatient people in America. I believed them until I walked toward the front door of a Wawa gas station. I was still forty feet away in the parking lot, walking between rows of cars. A massive construction worker in steel-toe boots, carrying a twenty-four-ounce coffee in one hand and a paper-wrapped hoagie in the other, pushed open the glass door to leave. Then he saw me. He stopped. He planted his boot against the bottom of the door. And he waited. Forty feet is a very long distance when a grown man is holding a door for you in the wind. In Japan, to make a stranger wait carries great shame. So I broke into that awkward half-jog every man performs when he wishes to show gratitude without looking like he is fleeing a crime. "Go ahead, boss," he said as I passed. Ten minutes later, as I walked out with my own sandwich, I saw an elderly woman locking her car thirty feet away. I planted my foot against the glass. I held the door. Another man behind me held the inner door. Within seconds we had formed an impromptu honor guard of grumpy men holding glass doors in complete silence. Philadelphia may boo Santa Claus. But inside the three-foot radius of a Wawa doorway, they have the manners of the imperial court.

Job interviews are fucking ridiculous. 😂 “Where do you see yourself in five years?” Hopefully somewhere I don’t have to answer this question ever again. “Why do you want to work for us?” Because my landlord refuses to accept good vibes and positive affirmations as rent. “What’s your biggest weakness?” Trying to keep a straight face when people ask me questions like these. “Why should we hire you?” Because you need someone to do the job, and I need money to survive. Seems like we could save each other a lot of time here. “Tell me about a time you faced a challenge.” I’m sitting in front of you, pretending these questions are normal while trying to secure my financial survival. “Why did you leave your last job?” Because apparently wanting better pay and less stress is no longer considered a valid career move. And my personal favorite: “Do you have any questions for us?” Yes. How much does it pay, how bad is the management, and how quickly can I use my PTO? We're all adults pretending this isn't a transaction. You need labor, I need a paycheck. Can we please stop acting like this is a first date? 💀😂

The rioters of 2026 are not the heirs of Gavroche or Cosette, but the spoiled children of consumer society. Jean Valjean stole bread; they, they loot for the latest iPhone! Alexandre Devecchio in an op-ed for Le Figaro

COVID has highlighted the vast divide: Christian and Catholic families, as well as non-religious families concerned with providing a quality education for their children, have withdrawn these children from the public school system

« C’est beau, c’est français ! » 🫶🏻🇫🇷

The representatives of the oligarchy announce that they will thwart the referendum. They will have to explain why they want to govern the country without, or even against, the people. Article 2 of the Constitution: “Government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”
