Evidence over tribe. Big questions, data that cuts against the grain, and a bet that AI can make us better at disagreeing.

We finally got a world where almost every kid makes it, and Canada's birth rate is at record lows. Parents back then buried kids and still had more. The fear moved from losing them to affording them, and men and women both keep putting off pairing up till the house/job is sorted

The biological clock talk is always aimed at women but guys put off settling down just as much, and a big part of the birth rate drop is just everyone starting late

‼️MAJOR BREAKING New polling shows that Canada has become one of the most anti-immigration nations on earth ...only 8% of Canadians supporting more immigration. They shoved it down our throats, called us racist for asking for homes, and this is the EXTREME backlash.

New immigration levels come out with today's budget. The current plan is 380k new permanent residents a yr to fill labour gaps, right when everyone's warning AI is about to eat entry level jobs. Can't both be true, and it's young Canadians after a first job who get squeezed

Pay as you go works fine while each generation is bigger than the last. Topping it up with immigration just moves the problem down the road, the newcomers retire too and need an even bigger group paying in behind them

57% of US voters in the exit poll said AI will do more to hurt society than help. Hard to blame them when all they hear is cheaper labour and fewer jobs, if it was being sold as more time for family/kids/community you'd probably get a very different number

By this logic, in order to mitigate suicide risk, we should stop issuing work permits immediately.
While they calculate the political risk another young man has committed suicide by stepping in front of a train as his work permit was expiring. Such cruelty towards so many young people who have done nothing but want to be Canadian. @MarkJCarney @fordnation

Nothing wrong with any of those, but when 25 is still the figuring it out stage the house and kids keep sliding later and later, and lots of ppl end up with fewer kids than they wanted

Nearly 3/4 of responses to the UK's settlement rules consultation came from current visa holders, and the Home Office says it listened and changed the plan. Who gets to settle somewhere should be up to the ppl already sharing the country, not whoever has the most riding on it

UK's expected to let care workers already there settle sooner, but the ppl looking after today's retirees get old too and need carers of their own, with an even bigger intake behind them
