It should be a bigger scandal that for the past few years no council member nor mayor of the City of Los Angeles has attended a @SCAGnews Regional Council meeting despite getting automatic seats on the board. Just total abdication of their role in setting regional policy.

LA City Council doesn’t even meet on Thursdays so they can’t use that as an excuse!

SCAG Regional Council is meeting next Thursday to appeal down the number assigned of homes which the Los Angeles region needs to make room for, currently 1.36 million. Staff is recommending 1.08 million but some members will push for just 855k. Our biggest city apparently shrugs.

This won’t be popular among my most partisan Democratic friends. But it needs to be said. The folks who did this stupid stunt in Alaska, if they did it at the behest of the actual campaign, and sought to obfuscate it and lie about it… They shouldn’t work in politics again. If the Dan Sullivan guy did it of his own accord, even if he did it to just fuck with the Republican, that’s not unethical. It’s a little nasty, but whatever. But when someone is running a campaign they need to have strong ethics and put the integrity of the election system first. And seeking to confuse voters is an attack on the integrity of the elections. It’s the equivalent of Dems mailing Republicans to say “don’t forget to vote on Thursday!” Has this happened before? Yeah, obviously. The funniest was when Hector De La Torre ran for Assembly as a reformer in the southeast cities of LA and those corrupt idiots found another Hector De La Torre to put on the ballot. And, of course, a bunch of staffers plead guilty to campaign finance violations around a move to put a candidate on the ballot to impact the Doris Allen recall in the 90s. But that shit was unethical and stupid and the folks who did that should never work in politics again either. Also, while the Trump lawsuit is also stupid, don’t be surprised if there are campaign finance violations around this AK thing. You will have people getting seriously pressured from the DOJ to prove that they didn’t miss-report trips paid for during these Dan Sullivan fishing expeditions or if they were keeping stuff off the books why there weren’t in-kind contribution reports for every beer bought for every Dan Sullivan they courted. This could be a total shitshow. So, in the future let’s run our campaigns straight-up and when someone says “let’s go steal lawn signs” or “let’s recruit a candidate to dilute the vote of our opponent” tell that person to F-off or if it’s the campaign, quit on the spot. Go work for someone else.

New this year @LACountyRRCC will be doing additional updates the first week of the election, as the vote by mail ballots are processed through the system. This doesn't make vote counting any faster, but does increase transparency.

In the past you would have a big drop of 200k-300k ballots which could change who was in the lead dramatically, especially for some of those local races where a few hundred ballots could make a difference. At least this way you can see a trend and plan accordingly.

Just five years ago we were on a twice a week cadence until people like me harangued Dean Logan and the BOS to make them update more frequently, and to their credit they listened.

Honestly the fact that near-universal accessibility of rideshare services has done nothing for DUI fatalities says something incredibly damning about this kind of offender Whatever we do to them needs to be extremely punishing
Imagine a drunk driver hits your kid in a crosswalk and you find out he would still have been in jail if not for his last victim fighting tooth and nail to keep him out

Saw this ad on TV but wouldn’t the campaign worker trading that be a violation of the rules? Because it would be insider trading.
.@Polymarket is launching its first U.S. political campaign ahead of the midterm elections, bringing on Academy Award-winning director Kathryn Bigelow to helm two ads. Read more 👉 adweek.it/4B2zBrb

Breaking: Anti-tax crusader horrified that people in Bakersfield, California want a good zoo.
You have got to be kidding me. Deep red Kern County is considering a 0.125% sales tax for their ZOO of all things and there is no opposition argument. Exploiting the taxpayer is a bipartisan enterprise. turnto23.com/news/in-your-ne…

If the Oakland A's were solvent, they would have imploded Oyo at the same time Tropicana came down for a better footprint on the new concept. It is time to say goodbye to Oyo. It should close. If it isn't demolished, competent people should be given a chance to save it.
Confirmed, no booze being sold or served at Oyo, Palette or Collection O. Staff is as confused as the rest of us. Rumblings are “lapsed insurance.”

This meaninglessly antagonistic rule has been removed from the check in instructions for LA County elections. In the past I would follow this and it would trigger people into trying to debate voter ID with me.

The @lacountyrrcc has (with several days notice this time) posted the schedule for the mobile and flex vote centers online. Since the Dodgers aren't in the World Series October 25 and 29 at Dodger Stadium or November 1 at SoFi stadium are options.

It looks like SCAG is going to appeal this determination, saying that "cost burden adjustment" is not directly quantifiable. Thus the 1,359,750 number goes down by 51,021 if moderate/above-mod is removed or by 504,627 if the adjustment is completely removed.
The 7th cycle RHND from @California_HCD to @SCAGnews is 1.36M homes, compared to 1.34M in the 6th cycle. While the number of units is basically the same, the distribution has shifted. In the 6th cycle, 42% of homes called for were market rate. In the 7th, that has dropped to 34%.

RHNA Subcommittee packet for October 26: scag.ca.gov/sites/default/fi… Meeting is at 2 pm both in person and online. Great opportunity to listen to SCAG dive deep into the weeds on this. I have no doubt the regional council will want to appeal this down to 855,123 if they could.
