day 8 of showing you my giant pumpkins until they’re giant pumpkins.
one of them is growing a SECOND leaf 🙂↔️
the covers seem to be working for the most part and haven’t had any more casualties however I think i accidentally trapped a bug inside one of the covers and there’s a few holes in one of the leaves (smh).
still have 4 more to plant.

today we gather to remember our first fallen soldier. they came into this world with big dreams, but unfortunately, they weren't destined for greatness. gone but never forgotten 🥀

it looks like something ate through the stem so I made some covers out of old plastic pots by cutting out the sides. hopefully this should help protect them.
i planted 3 new seedlings today. one in the same place as the one that died in the straw and two in a new freshly dug paddock. this means I currently have 4 in the ground and another 4 still in pots.

still looking super healthy and they are definitely getting bigger every day. i have found a new spot to plant 1 or 2 more.

still only have two in the ground. i can see quite a difference in the size of the first leaf on the one planted in the hay.
i might start tape measuring the height tomorrow to judge growth more.

nothing new to report today. those that I planted yesterday are looking healthy. trying to plan where to plant the remaining 7.

i planted 2 into the soil today now that their first leaf has emerged. i planted them in different spots around the farm in different types of soil to see if one does better than the other and also because they need about 6-7m of patch space per plant 😅
another seed has sprouted and been put into a pot bringing germination rate to 8/12 seeds.

giant Atlantic pumpkins grow to 180-230kgs (400-500 pounds)
i moved those that have sprouted into individual pots to give them the best chance of growing strong roots before planting them. so far 7/12 seeds have germinated but I am optimistic a few more will pop through.
some of the larger seedlings should be ready to plant in the next couple of days.
