If you're a Year 6 teacher, these 'badly completed' 2016-2025 KS2 arithmetic and reasoning papers may be useful over the coming weeks! They feature common mistakes and errors for children to identify. Crucially, not every answer is wrong!

Very sad news that the pioneering arts legend Sir Humphrey Burton CBE has passed away. We first met in 2018 during my Ely Cathedral event which presented his classic 1973 film of Leonard Bernstein conducting Mahler 2 on a big screen. We kept in touch ever since and itβs a collaboration Iβll always treasure, especially as his concert films, documentaries and books were a huge part of my music education. Thinking of his family and remembering his many anecdotes β€οΈ

So saddened by the passing of HUMPHREY BURTON. A giant from a time when arts journalism really pushed the envelope. He was a huge influence on my trajectory as a journalist bonding with me on Cardiff Singer of the World on TV and, of course, all things Leonard Bernstein.

Very sad to hear the news of unique Sir Humphrey Burton passing today. His contribution to music in UK was phenomenal, his passion for the arts immense, and just the most wonderful company. We were very lucky to have him with us!

This is gratifying to read. It's a very sad day. I do think we are in a vastly impoverished era compared to Humph's heyday as a programme-maker.

So much of explicit instruction falls apart in the middle, not the ends. We model well and we set independent tasks well, but the guided practice in between is too often rushed, vague or left to chance. This piece is a sharp reminder that learning is built in the checks, the clarity and the corrections. Worth a read.
NEW POST
When I moved into primary teaching, I thought guided practice just meant working through a question together.
I was wrong.
This article explains the shift I made and why accuracy skyrocketed when I did.
Includes the full Essential Guide to Explicit Instruction in Mathematics.
