This England loss is as much on manager Thomas Tuchel and his coaching staff, who paid dearly for parking the bus too early only to see Lionel Messi and Argentina drive past the Three Lions.

In a country that despises most of its leaders, the French coach Didier Deschamps has had universal respect for decades. Me @FT on one of two Basque coaches in today's semi, whose natural leadership was revealed in a terrible moment aged 16. Free link as.ft.com/r/49ceb6da-1301-4d…
Privileged to be a part of the series
Lots of articles to consider for Fall courses
Great work @NACLA in bringing more visibility to the topic

I was wondering this: if there’s a similar all-or-nothing pressure for France in WCs, as exists for other big countries
If that’s how the star puts it, then I guess so
Great story
“Every day a bit more.”
One last time with free link: me @FT on the introverted Londoner Michael Olise, a chess fanatic and son of a cricket international, who is the world's newest great footballer - for France as.ft.com/r/425500ed-5091-40…
Remembering Andres Escobar, killed on July 2, 1994, days after Colombia was eliminated from USA ‘94
Escobar penned a letter to the country while en route home, imploring fans to stick with this team.
His letter ended with ‘La vida no termina acá.’
It was partially reprinted in a NYC Spanish daily

While the world sings France’s praises, I’m wondering:
Is there an expectation back home that they win it all?
As in, do they shoulder that suffocating—all or nothing—pressure like England, Brazil, Arg, etc…?
